Applications are invited for two PostDoc positions at the Department of Sociology, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Copenhagen, Denmark. The positions are available for three years from July 1 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter.
Job description
A postdoctoral position is a fixed-term academic position. The position is heavily weighted in favour of research. Other duties (e.g., research administration) may have to be performed to a limited extent. The University determines the exact ratio between the various responsibilities. The ratio may vary over time.
The Postdocs will collaborate with Associate Professor Mathias Wullum Nielsen on the project “Quantifying institutional and country-related Matthew effects in science”. The Carlsberg Foundation finances the project. As part of a small research team, the postdocs will help lead efforts in developing and maintaining large-scale relational databases of science-related data, designing and conducting quasi-experiments, survey experiments, and carrying out various forms of quantitative data analysis. The selected candidates will be expected to contribute substantially to publications in the research group, both as first and secondary authors.
Qualifications
In order to be considered for the position applicants must have research qualifications at least corresponding to what can be achieved as part of a successfully completed PhD. The ideal candidates will have a PhD in sociology, political science, economics, education, biostatistics or related fields. We seek applicants with strong statistical skills and experience with managing large datasets and relational databases. Familiarity with commonly used scientific scripting languages (e.g. SQL, R, or Python) and/or survey experiments will be a plus. We also seek candidates with good communication skills in spoken and written English, and an ability to produce state-of-the art social-science research.

Salary and conditions of employment
Salary and terms of appointment will be in accordance with an agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC). The annual salary for postdoctoral researchers is within the range DKK 412.000 – 434.000 (EUR 55,000 – 57,900 app.). The University will also pay a monthly contribution to your pension fund corresponding to 17.1 % of your salary. Negotiation for additional supplements will be possible.
An agreement between The Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC) makes it possible for international researchers employed by the University to achieve a pension exemption, whereby the pension contribution will be paid out as salary.
