København N

We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic researcher with a strong interest in membrane protein structure and function for a postdoctoral position to commence on September 1st 2020 or after agreement.

The Department of Biomedical Sciences (BMI) is an interdisciplinary department with research groups focused on topics spanning from basic to translational science. The Gustavsson group is one of multiple groups at the Laboratory for Molecular Pharmacology studying G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs).

Information on the department can be found at: https://bmi.ku.dk/

Our research
The focus of the group is to understand the molecular level structure and dynamics of GPCRs and couple that knowledge to biological function. GPCRs are cell membrane spanning proteins that are involved in numerous physiological and pathophysiological processes and account for over 30% of targets for currently approved drugs.

Your job
Chemokines are small soluble proteins that drive cell migration through binding to G protein-coupled chemokine receptors in the cell membrane. This activates intracellular signaling pathways and is a fundamental process involved in numerous physiological and pathophysiological functions. The project aims to characterize and understand novel mechanisms of chemokine receptor regulation at a molecular level. You will use a combination of structural biology and biochemical, biophysical and pharmacological methods to study the interactions between chemokine receptors and regulatory proteins.

Profile
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with the following competencies and experience:

Essential experience and skills:

  • You have a PhD in Structural Biology, Biochemistry, Biophysics or similar
  • You are experienced in protein expression and purification, preferably involving membrane proteins
  • You have an active interest in structure and function of G protein-coupled receptors
  • You have good communication skills and ability to work in teams
  • Excellent English skills written and spoken

Desirable experience and skills:

  • Experience with structural biology methods (cryo-EM, x-ray crystallography) for protein characterization
  • Knowledge of GPCR structure, signalling and pharmacology
  • Experience with culturing of eukaryotic cells for protein expression
  • Experience/knowledge in/of XX

Place of employment
The place of employment is at the Department of Biomedical Sciences, Panum Institute, University of Copenhagen. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in dynamic and international research environment. Our research facilities include modern laboratories and access to state-of-the-art equipment.

Terms of employment
The employment as postdoc is a full time and fixed-term position for 2 years. Starting date is September 1, 2020 or after agreement.

Salary, pension and terms of employment will be in accordance with the agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).
