Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research
Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen
We are looking for a highly motivated Postdoc with an interest in brown adipose tissue for analysis and interpretation of single cell and single nuclei data to start February 1, 2022 or after agreement.
Background
The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research’s vision is to strengthen interdisciplinary research that transforms our basic understanding of the mechanisms that underlie metabolic health and disease, and to accelerate this knowledge toward new prevention and treatment strategies. We were established in 2010, and in 2017 we moved into new laboratories, offices and meeting rooms in the Maersk Tower www.maersktower.ku.dk.
The Center has around 260 employees who work in an international, highly collaborative research environment across a range of biomedical disciplines. You can read more about us here: www.cbmr.ku.dk.
Our group and research
The position available is in the Translational Cell Metabolism Group headed by Associate Professor Camilla Schéele. The research group study human adipose tissue. Major focus areas include adipose tissue heterogeneity, brown fat recruitment and how secreted factors affect metabolism by mediating crosstalk at cellular or tissue level. You can read more about the research of the Scheele group at https://cbmr.ku.dk/research/integrative-metabolism-and-environmental-influences/scheele-group/
Project Description
The candidate will be involved in several projects with the overall goal of depicting the heterogeneity of human adipose tissue. This will include investigations of how the relations between subtypes of adipocytes are regulated and how this is related to metabolic health. The candidate will take the lead on analyzing single cell and single nuclei data sets of human adipocytes derived from both white and brown adipose depots. The candidate will also take part in additional ongoing projects in the group including an effort to establish a bundle of novel sequencing approaches in the group as well as projects related to the investigation of brown adipose tissue crosstalk at cellular and organ level.
We can offer a multidisciplinary and collaborative group and a strong international network within brown fat biology and metabolism.
Profile
We are looking for a highly motivated scientist with the following competencies and qualifications:
The ideal candidate combines:
Terms of employment
The Postdoc position is a full-time position (37 working hours weekly) for 2 years. Starting date is February 1, 2022 or after agreement.
