The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research
Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences
University of Copenhagen

We are looking for an experienced and motivated staff scientist with extensive expertise in mitochondrial biology/function and assays (in vitro and in vivo) related to metabolic health and disease to support the work of various groups at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research (CBMR) in close collaboration with Rodent Metabolic Phenotyping Platform. The position is expected to start on April 1, 2022, or after agreement.

Our research
The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research’s vision is to strengthen interdisciplinary research that transforms our basic understanding of the mechanisms that underlie metabolic health and disease, and to accelerate this knowledge toward new prevention and treatment strategies. We were established in 2010 and in 2017, we moved into new laboratories, offices, and meeting rooms in the Maersk Tower www.maersktower.ku.dk.

The Center has around 260 employees who work in an international, highly collaborative research environment across a range of biomedical disciplines. You can read more about us here www.cbmr.ku.dk.

Rodent Metabolic Phenotyping Platform (RMPP)
RMPP is a rodent in vivo metabolic phenotyping unit that serves to support Center scientists in performing high quality in vivo studies. We are currently upscaling and developing RMPP by expanding the team, developing the facilities, and broadening the operations and activities to ensure access to state-of-the-art equipment, training programs and experimental expertise. We expect the new mitochondrial biology expert to help us bridge gaps between existing in vitro and in vivo functions within the center´s research groups and enabling platforms. Please, find a list of current techniques and equipment on our webpage https://cbmr.ku.dk/researchfacilities/rodent-metabolic-phenotyping-platform/. Please, find a short film about the key methodologies of RMPP here.

Your job

The position requires extensive experience in using Seahorse and Oxygraph (for High-Resolution Respirometry) and data analysis/interpretation.

Your profile
Criteria:

  • PhD in metabolism with specific expertise/emphasis on mitochondrial biology/function in mammals
  • Ability to design and carry out in vitro and in vivo metabolic studies using cell culture and animal models
  • Ability to develop and establish high throughput, advanced/innovative mitochondrial assays. Extensive experience in using Seahorse and Oxygraph for mitochondrial bioenergetics applications
  • Certification to work with preclinical models
  • Strong interest and capacity to integrate/interpret data from in vivo animal physiology, tissue mitochondrial function and multi-omics studies
  • Strong collaborative skills, ability to share knowledge and expertise, and support to a multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English

Place of employment
