We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic assistant professor for a 3-year position starting March 1, 2024.

The main task of the position is to conduct research within the area of gut hormone physiology, including supervision of students. Teaching obligations include teaching in gut physiology and gastrointestinal pharmacology for medical students, gastrointestinal pharmacology and osteoporosis pharmacology for Human biology students and gastrointestinal pathophysiology to engineering students.

Your job

Your tasks would primarily consist of planning and performing research within the area gut physiology. Much of the research will be conducted in teams consisting of technical staff, medical and PhD students, post-docs and colleagues within the department, within the frame work of The Panum Institute and with other academic institutions in Denmark and abroad.

Teaching obligation will include contributions to the teaching in gastrointestinal physiology and gastrointestinal pharmacology for medical students, gastrointestinal and osteoporosis pharmacology for Human biology students and gastrointestinal pathophysiology to engineering students. The assistant professor will be expected to give lectures, teach tutorials and run the laboratory exercise in epithelial transport. The assistant professor will also be involved in the examinations of medical students (including the preparation of exam questions)

The assistant professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:

  • research, including publication/academic dissemination duties
  • securing research funding
  • research-based teaching and the supervision of students (bachelor and master theses)
  • sharing knowledge with society

Furthermore, we are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with the following skills and experience:

Essential experience and skills:

  • Educational background: health sciences, preferably a medical doctor with a PhD within the area of gut hormone physiology / endocrinology
  • You are highly experienced with large animal models, clinical experimental research, in vitro methods, relevant statistical methods and analyses
  • You have robust experience with teaching (lectures, tutorials, practicals)
  • You have an active interest in gut physiology, endocrinology, experimental research, clinical and translational research.
  • You have pre- and postgraduate teaching experience within endocrinology or gut physiology
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Demonstrated an ability to work in diverse teams
  • Excellent English skills (written and spoken)
  • Experience with publication as first author
  • Experience with grant application

Place of employment

The place of employment is at the Department of Biomedical Sciences, Panum Institute, University of Copenhagen. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in dynamic and international research environment. Our research facilities include modern laboratories and access to core facilities.

Terms of employment

The average weekly working hours are 9,25 hours per week.

The position is a fixed-term position limited to a period of 3 years. The start date is March 1 2024 or after agreement.

Salary, pension and other conditions of employment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant organisation. Depending on qualifications, a supplement may be negotiated. The employer will pay an additional 17.1 % to your pension fund.

Foreign and Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reductions if they hold a PhD degree and have not lived in Denmark the last 10 years.

The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2020.

The further process
After the expiry of the deadline for applications, the authorized recruitment manager selects applicants for assessment on the advice of the hiring committee. Once the assessment work has been completed each applicant has the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that relates to the applicant him/herself.
