We are offering a Research assistant position in Clinical Proteomics Group, led by Research Director and Professor Matthias Mann, at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Protein Research (CPR), University of Copenhagen.

Our group and research
The Mann Group undertakes translational research projects involving proteomics of blood, plasma, cerebrospinal fluid and tissue for the phenotyping of patients. One goal is to establish robust, high-throughput proteome profiling pipelines for these patient materials, allowing for the proteomic screening of large clinical cohorts. The group’s overarching aim is to identify biological markers for early detection of metabolic disorders, neurodegenerative diseases and cancer, to improve diagnosis and help to develop individualized therapies.

Start date: 15 March or as soon as possible thereafter
Duration: 2 years
Weekly working hours: 37.

Responsibilities and tasks
The Research assistant will join the multidisciplinary research team in the Mann group. We are seeking a Research assistant to work with clinical samples and preparing them for mass spectrometric analysis as well as other central tasks in the lab including general maintenance of the laboratory equipment and reagents.

The Research assistant will also have opportunities to work in close collaboration with different researchers and medical doctors within the group at various stages of their research as the need arises.

Key criteria for the assessment of applicants

  • Applicants should hold an MSc degree in biochemistry, protein chemistry, biology, human biology, or a related discipline with demonstrable lab experience.
  • Proficiencies in lab work related to protein work and protein assays.
  • Experience in following SOPs as well as solid problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently as part of a team.
  • Well organized with attention to detail and excellent lab book skills.
  • Strong communication skills and fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Enthusiasm, motivation, and capability to learn new methods.

Other important criteria are:

  • Knowledge of high pressure liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry.
  • Good understanding of sample preparation workflows for proteomics.
  • Proficiencies with Microsoft Excel and Word.

The place of employment is Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Protein Research, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in dynamic and international research environment.

Terms of employment
Salary, pension and terms of employment are in accordance with the agree­ment between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State. Depending on seniority, the monthly salary begins at DKK 29,395 / approx. EUR 3,919 (October 2019-level) plus pension.

The further process
