A 2-year postdoc position is available in the group of associate professor Osman Mirza at the Department of Drug Design and Pharmacology, University of Copenhagen.

The Mirza group works on structure-function studies of secondary active nutrient and drug transporters and recently also proteins that interact with these transporters. Basigin also referred to as CD147 or Extracellular matrix metalloproteinase inducer (EMMPRIN), is a type-1 membrane protein that interacts with many different macromolecules and is involved in several diseases such as cancer and malaria. Our focus is on understanding the structure of full-length human Basigin and its interactions with transport proteins. The postdoctoral fellow will drive the project, which will involve in vitro protein:protein interaction studies and structure elucidation using cryoEM, participate in the education and guidance of students, and write scientific publications.

Our group is part of the Protein and Peptides discipline at the department and has access to state-of-the art facilities for expression, purification and characterization of proteins. CryoEM studies will be performed in collaboration with collaborators at the iNANO (Aarhus University).

Profile
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with the following competencies and experience:

Essential experience and skills:

  • You have a PhD in structural biology or related field
  • You are highly experienced in membrane protein production in eukaryotic cells and protein structure elucidation by cryoEM.
  • You have an active interest in protein:protein
  • Proficient communication skills and ability to work in teams
  • Excellent English skills written and spoken

Desirable experience and skills:

  • Chemical crosslinking of protein:protein complexes
  • Membrane proteins

Place of employment
The place of employment is at Department of Drug Design and Pharmacology, University of Copenhagen. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in dynamic and international research environment. Our research facilities include modern laboratories].

Terms of employment
The employment as postdoc is a full time and fixed-term position for 2 years. Starting date is 1 May 2020 or soon hereafter.

Salary, pension and terms of employment will be in accordance with the agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). Currently, the monthly salary starts at 34,360 DKK/ approx. 4,590 Euro (October 2019-level). Depending on qualifications, a supplement may be negotiated. The employer will pay an additional 17.1 % to your pension fund.

Non-Danish and Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reductions, if they hold a PhD degree and have not lived in Denmark the last 10 years.

The position is covered by the “Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff at the Universities” of 11 December 2019.
