The Department of Design and Communication at the University of Southern Denmark, Faculty of Humanities, invites applications for a position as Professor in Design Studies. The position is at the campus in Kolding and is available from 1 January 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter.
The Department of Design and Communication encompasses Design, International Business Communication, Information Studies, Library Science, Web Communication, and Tourism. Applicants must have research and teaching experience at professor level within the theoretical, historical, and analytical dimensions of the field. Applicants must contribute to the continued development of the humanities-based design study profile of the department including its dimensions of practice and communication.
The academic environment engages in the humanities-based study of historical, cultural, communicative and aesthetic aspects of design in relation to culture, business and society. The successful applicant is expected to head cross-disciplinary research groups, as well as contribute to the continued development of the department’s educational profile including the Master programme in Design Management, the Master programme in Design Studies, the Bachelor programme in Design Culture and Economics, and the Bachelor programme in Design Culture. As part of the application please include a vision for the further development of design studies within the humanities at University of Southern Denmark. The vision should aim at both research and teaching. It must place SDU’s humanities-based design studies in both a national as well as international perspective related to research and considering cooperation with the surroundings. The vision should frame the development of the academic environment’s existing cooperation with the Department of Entrepreneurship and Relationship Management and Design School Kolding as well as possible cooperation with other academic environments at SDU and other relevant research environments in Denmark. Furthermore, the vision should relate to SDU’s overall strategy. International staff is expected to be able to teach in Danish after a two-year period.

Application, salary, and condition of employment etc.
Employment shall be on the terms specified in the labour market agreement and the salary shall correspond to LR 37 (pay bracket 37) annually DKK 536.665,33 plus pension (1st April 2016 level). To this must be added a non-pension-qualifying supplement of DKK 52.935,93 (1st April 2016 level) from the executive pool.
Appointment to this position may also include teaching obligations in regard to related degree programs.

Applicants for a professorship at the Faculty of Humanities are requested to submit a teaching portfolio with the application as documentation for teaching experience as well as supervision qualifications.
