In Vitro Scientist Within Atherosclerosis for Cardiovascular Research

Novo Nordisk - Research & Development

Denmark - Måløv

We are seeking a talented scientist to be part of Novo Nordisk A/S and participate in changing the quality of life for millions of people with cardiovascular diseases.

About the department

Cardiovascular Research is a department in Global Diabetes, Cardio-renal and Translational research, Novo Nordisk A/S. As part of Novo Nordisk’s new strategy within chronic diseases, this department has a focus towards target identification, validation, and deep pre-clinical characterisation of novel treatment options for atherosclerosis and chronic heart failure. Within atherosclerosis, we have an interest in identifying and maturing pharmaceutical approaches that will benefit patients that are still at high risk despite receiving current standard of care treatment. We set-up, validate and use in vitro assays, mode-of-action studies and animal models for characterizing new drug candidates. Laboratory work is carried out by technical staff and scientists as well as outsourced as contract research.

The position

We are seeking a talented scientist to join our in vitro team working to develop new treatments for atherosclerosis. Here, you will be part of a multidisciplinary project group identifying new treatment options for cardiovascular diseases. We seek an individual with excellent knowhow around in vitro and ex-vivo assays/models related to vascular physiology and pathophysiology. The job encompasses active engagement in innovation and in understanding mode of action with the objective to impact novel treatments. The successful candidate will be responsible for executing projects in the atherosclerosis area, with a great focus on the design of in vitro experiments to validate human relevance, assess translational tools, and exploration of mechanism of action for a given target. The candidate will work closely with other team members to move projects forward across the value chain. This position requires close collaboration with Translational Science, Bioinformatics, Diabetes, Renal, Liver Disease and Obesity departments. The candidate is expected to use approximately 30% of the time in the laboratory. Furthermore, the candidate will take part in identifying new target opportunities as well as evaluating potential external opportunities from academia, biotech or pharma.

Qualifications

You hold a Ph.D. within biological sciences and have at least 3 years of postdoc or pharma experience with in-depth knowledge and proven scientific track-record in vascular pathophysiology (mandatory). We seek an individual who is highly skilled in setting-up, optimizing, and running vascular-related in vitro and ex vivo assays, and experience with functional endothelial (e.g. flow systems) and smooth muscle cell (e.g. phenotypic modulation) assays is expected. Knowledge around especially inflammation but also gene expression, lipo- and glucotoxicity, oxidative stress, fibrosis, and functional membrane permeability assays is also highly valued. A solid international scientific network is an advantage, as is holding an international Ph.D., post doc or work experience in academia or in pharma. Experience in lead identification and lead optimization is a solid advantage. In addition to your scientific profile, you are a dedicated, open-minded, and innovative team player with good collaboration and problem-solving skills. You are organized and result oriented.
