The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Southern Denmark, Odense, invites applications for a PhD position in operator algebras with a focus on quantum metric spaces and non-commutative geometry with starting date 15 August 2021. Application deadline: 1 June 2021.
Candidate Profile
We are looking for a highly motivated student with a general interest in operator algebras and/or non-commutative geometry. The student is expected to hold a Master’s degree in mathematics by the starting date for the position (15 August 2021) and have a solid background within functional analysis and an interest in working within the field of quantum metric spaces and non-commutative geometry. The position is associated with the research project ‘Classical and quantum distances’ funded by the Independent Research Fund Denmark, and the hired candidate will be supervised jointly by Jens Kaad and David Kyed. Based in Odense, the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science offers an inclusive and international working environment with state-of-the-art facilities as well as a strong tradition for collaboration across departments and faculties, and with other educational institutions, municipalities, and industries. Appointment as a PhD Research Fellow is for three years. Employment stops automatically at the end of the period. The holder of the scholarship is not allowed to have other paid employment during the three-year period.
The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement on salaried PhD scholars between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations). Please check links for more information on salary and taxation.
The successful candidate will be enrolled at this university in accordance with faculty regulations and the Danish Ministerial Order on the PhD Programme at the Universities (PhD order).
