The Research Unit of Active Living, Department of Sports Science and Clinical Biomechanics, invites applications for a position as associate professor in Active Living research to be filled as soon as possible.
In particular, the candidate will be expected to initiate and conduct research and teaching and to supervise bachelor, master and Ph.D.-students.
We are looking for candidates with the ambition to establish themselves as leading scholars in their field of research. We are interested in candidates working with themes related to physical activity patterns among one or more population groups, sports participation, determinants of physical activity, sports and leisure facilities, settings-based physical activity, outdoor activities and active urban design.
The successful candidate will be part of a multidisciplinary research unit team committed to the ambitions, obligations and values of the University of Southern Denmark, and to make substantial contributions to the further development of research, innovation and education on active living – understood as the combination of different forms of physical activity associated with behavior around school, home, work, transport and leisure, to promote a healthier lifestyle.
The current research lines on Active Living include, but are not limited to:
• Investigating the physical environment from an interdisciplinary perspective (sociological, political, psychological, epidemiological and cultural) to determine the fundamental elements underpinning engagement/non-engagement in active living
• Creating, refining and further developing theories and analytical models in an effort to get a more nuanced understanding of associations between settings, sport and leisure facilities and active living
• Development of methods for collecting data and generating knowledge about associations between settings and active living
• Generating practice-oriented knowledge on motivational activating spaces for play, sport, outdoor activities, transportation and physical activity
• Describing and mapping the role of voluntary work in sporting and policy issues.
• Sharing and disseminating knowledge and acting as a sounding board for ideas associated with the prevention of physical inactivity and the promotion of active lifestyles.
The ideal candidate will be expected to have
• A PhD degree within health or social sciences
• Research experience, related to the broad area of physical activity , documented by peer-reviewed publications
• A documented record of teaching and supervision experience relevant for the department’s portfolio of study programs.
• Proven competencies with competitive research grant funding
• Experience with establishing links with academic, research and/or industry partners.
• Competencies to engage in knowledge exchange activities and collaborations with and for the wider society

Salary and terms of employment
The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).
