The Danish Centre for Population Research invites applications for one or more full professorships in demography. The selected candidates are expected to push and sustain demographic research in our Centre as the analytical and methodological cores for cross disciplinary population research.
The Centre is part of the University of Southern Denmark’s Faculty of Business and Social Sciences; it is the coordinating partner in an interfaculty research collaboration, which includes researchers in Health Sciences, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, and the Humanities. Read more about the organization.
Research in our Centre mainly concerns questions arising within aging societies and its multidisciplinary dimensions with a focus on mortality. We seek to also include the dimensions of fertility and family dynamics, and potentially migration. We do both fundamental as well as applied research and provide policy relevant findings for Denmark and internationally.
The Centre is one of the leading teams in the world on demographic modelling and forecasting, much of which is financed by large external grants; the new Professors are expected to develop their own research agendas attracting external funding, and coordinate research within formal/mathematical and statistical/analytical respectively demography in our Centre.
Teaching initially will play a minor role, but our new colleagues are expected to contribute to new teaching programmes within the Centre in the future.
All professors in our group value and contribute to outreach, relevance to society, in particular Denmark, and institution building.
You – the applicant
Among the standard tasks of a full professorship, this position particularly emphasizes excellence in research, leadership, and innovativeness.
We are looking for an excellent, pathbreaking researcher with substantial experience in formal, or more broadly mathematical demography and/or advanced empirical modelling, and experience in interdisciplinary research, with bold and visionary research ideas that address big questions and the potential to successfully attract external funding.
You are strong in demographic modelling, development of theory and concepts, and the advancement of the methodological core of demographic research.
Working within an interdisciplinary network that includes biologists as long-standing and successful collaborators in major research projects, an advantage would be if you had experience with non-human biodemography.
