Invited are applications from outstanding candidates with a master’s degree in Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Molecular Biology, or closely related fields. Experience in fluorescence microscopy, yeast cell and molecular biology and/or lipid biochemistry is an advantage. The proposed starting date is 1 September 2022 or soon thereafter. Application deadline: 21 June 2022.
The Wüstner group integrates quantitative fluorescence microscopy and bioimage informatics with biophysics and cell biology to study transport processes in living cells. We are part of the Danish Molecular Biomedical Imaging Center (DaMBIC) and the Nikon Center of Excellence in Microscopy at the University of Southern Denmark, housing state-of-the art equipment for advanced bioimaging applications, such as wide field, confocal and multiphoton microscopy, stimulated emission depletion (STED) microscopy and stochastic optical reconstruction microscopy (STORM).
As a PhD student in the Wüstner group, you will be engaged in an ambitious projects aimed at determining lipid trafficking mechanisms to the vacuole in yeast as a model system for mammalian lysosomes. In particular, focus will be on the role of Niemann Pick proteins and their interaction in lipid transport during changing environmental conditions. You will use a combination of automated live-cell imaging, super-resolution microscopy, soft X-ray tomography and single molecule tracking to study such processes.
The ideal candidate would have a documented background and experience in one or several of the following topics:
