A 3-year Research Assistant position in Dynamic Optical Metasurfaces from August 1, 2022 until July 31, 2025 is open at SDU Nano Optics, Mads Clausen Institute, (www.SDU.dk/nano-optics) at the University of Southern Denmark (Odense Campus).
The Research Assistant is expected to carry out investigations planned within the Inge Lehmann project “Electrically-Driven Tunable Phase-Change Metasurfaces” and the project “Adaptive Metamaterials for smart standalone histopathology with polarized light (META-HILIGHT)”. The work involves experimental and theoretical investigations of various configurations of optical metasurfaces that are amenable to dynamic tuning their characteristics with external stimuli, such as electrical signals. The aim is to develop novel dynamic optical metasurfaces that would enable fast and efficient control of their operation as well as new optical functionalities. Specifically, two platforms will be investigated: metasurfaces based on phase-change materials and MEMS-coupled metasurfaces. The research is conducted in close collaboration with several international research groups.
Potential candidates for the Research Assistant position are expected to have a relevant PhD degree and documented research experience within the field of optical metasurfaces as well as a strong academic record. Experience in advanced nanofabrication, as well as design, modelling and optical characterization of dynamic metasurfaces will be considered an advantage.
The Research Assistant is also expected to be actively involved in the supervision of MSc and PhD students affiliated with SDU Nano Optics as well as in writing grant applications supporting the research at SDU Nano Optics.
Further information can be obtained from Prof. Sergey I. Bozhevolnyi via e-mail: [email protected]
