Odense M
Department of Biology is seeking to recruit a PhD student for development of mathematical models based on information from field studies. The position is for three years and is supported by a strategic university grant. Expected starting date: 1 April 2023. Application deadline: 11 January 2023.
Most marine ecosystems are in an impoverished turbid state, where pressures from excess nutrient loading and the derived stressors keep the ecosystems from realizing sufficient ecosystem services like: 1) nutrient storage during the growth season, 2) permanent storage, 3) development of improved benthic light intensities, 4) avoiding anoxia, and 5) robust food webs all supporting habitat recovery.
The research of the candidate will focus on development of a combined GIS/mathematical model tool to simulate mass budget of ecosystem services for quantification of expressed ecosystem services during simulations of baseline, nutrient reduction and habitat recovery scenarios of eelgrass transplantations, dispersions of mussel banks and stone reefs. Hereby the work includes sensitivity tests, calibration and validation of analytical methods combining nature/environmental processes at habitat and full ecosystem levels.
The candidate must have an MSc degree in biology or equivalent and should have a background in ecology plus relevant numerical and GIS expertise.
