Odense M
The Centre NanoSYD at The Mads Clausen Institute invites applications for a 2-year Postdoc-position in the field: optical design of hyperspectral camera using novel spectral sensor array. The position is located in Odense, and the starting date is 1st of August 2023 or as soon as possible thereafter.
About the project
The research focus of the postdoc project is to develop future hyperspectral camera technology for plastic and textiles identification. In the project the latest sensor array technology will be implemented and take advantage of it, in relation to the green transition by targeting the global plastic and textiles challenge.
The project work combines optical analysis and optimization with experimental characterization and system implementation using sensor arrays with a wide spectral range from 400 nm to 1700 nm. Working with this wide spectral range sets high requirements for lenses and gratings with respect to, e.g., dispersion, transmittance and diffraction efficiency. The project focus will be on developing high efficiency illumination modalities for optimized signal to noise performance and high spectral sensitivity. Furthermore, the project work includes hyperspectral image studies such as principal component analyses. The project, which is funded by Innovation Fund Denmark, is a collaboration between two Danish universities and a global industrial partner.
During the project-period there will opportunities to present research findings for project partners, at conferences and workshops.
About the applicant
We are looking for a highly motivated and ambitious candidate with a PhD degree in a field related to the project, such as optics, laser physics, engineering physics, physics, or another closely related discipline. The preferred candidate has experience in optical system design, hyperspectral imaging, optical component characterization techniques, experimental laboratory work, data analysis, and experience with camera array technology. Moreover, the preferred candidate has good skills in communicating scientific results in English (written and spoken), can work structured, can work well in a team as well as independently, and can quickly acquire new knowledge.
Research environment The successful candidate will be affiliated with NanoSYD at the Mads Clausen Institute, University of Southern Denmark, which is located at the Faculty of Engineering on the international campus in Odense, Denmark. We offer a modern, inclusive, international, and interdisciplinary working environment with state-of-the-art facilities as well as a strong tradition of international collaboration.
