The Centre for Industrial Mechanics (CIM) at The Mads Clausen Institute, University of Southern Denmark (SDU) invites applications for a 3-year PhD position in mechanical engineering with emphasis on aeroelastic modelling, analysis and optimization of wind turbines. The starting date for the position is September 1, 2020, or as soon as possible thereafter. The application deadline is June 18, 2020.
The PhD project
The PhD position is part of a newly established group around wind turbine technology and will contribute with new models and knowledge of wind turbine aeroelasticity. The aeroelastic models and analysis tools developed in the project will be used for optimization of rotor design with respect to power performance, dynamic loads and stability, and controllability in collaboration with the wind turbine industry.
What we offer
We offer a challenging position in the newly established Centre for Industrial Mechanics where education, research, and innovation come together in industrially inspired research and innovation for the benefit of relevant teaching and consulting activities.
The PhD fellow will work on research targets that are setup partly by the wind turbine industry and partly by the long-term objectives of the wind turbine technology group at the center.
What we expect
The successful applicant will be expected to have:
Research environment
The successful candidates will be affiliated with the Centre for Industrial Mechanics and the Mechatronics Section at the Mads Clausen Institute, University of Southern Denmark which is located at the Faculty of Engineering on the international campus in Sønderborg, Denmark.
The Centre for Industrial Mechanics is expanding its activities to include wind turbine technology in collaboration with regional industrial partners. This PhD project will be part of a research group with focus on aeroelastic simulations of turbine loads, dynamic stability analysis, control design, and concurrent aero-servo-elastic turbine design and operation optimization.
