Currently the Danish Institute for Human Rights (the Institute) has more than 30 staff working internationally in several countries, such as Africa, Eurasia, the Middle East and North Africa and South America. Based in Copenhagen, the Danish Institute for Human Rights’ HR department is focusing on being ‘one workplace with different locations.’ This involves professionalising and streamlining our HR approach and the chosen candidate will play a central role in this process.

YOUR DEPARTMENT You will work in the Human Resource Department and will report to the Department Director and the Team Leader. You will collaborate closely with your colleagues within the team but will also be responsible for driving processes and tasks individually – including close dialogue and collaboration with internal and external partners.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT The position is full time and a 12-months contract with possibility of extension. Salary and other conditions will be determined in accordance with the Danish Ministry of Finance’s agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations with the possibility to negotiate individual supplements.

JOB DESCRIPTION As our International HR Legal Adviser, you will:
- Lead an internal process assessing the context-specific terms and conditions of employment for our staff, particularly those working outside Denmark, streamlining contract formats and conditions for international staff.
- Have the responsibility and oversight for employment contracts and related work conditions for staff based outside Denmark.
- Work closely with the HR department as well as with department directors and project staff across the divisions.
- Collaborate with external experts and networks on HR-related matters in the various country contexts in which we work internationally (e.g., local labour law experts, local authorities, donors, and partners).
- Review and update the Institute’s guidelines and manuals on conditions for international staff as relevant.
PROFILE We expect that you:
- Are an expert in labour law and related conditions in various country context.
- Have demonstrated experience writing labour contracts in an international context and exploring related matters and challenges.
- Have practical experience ensuring compliance and alignment between international and domestic standards in contractual matters.
- Have experience or the ability to familiarise yourself with Danish labour law – the collective bargaining agreements guiding Danish public institutions.
- Have knowledge of international cost of living indexes and their related practical application.
- Are culturally sensitive, diplomatic, proactive, a team player, work and communicate well with others and still able to work under deadlines.
QUALIFICATIONS
- MA degree in law, human resource management or similar.
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience working in human resources, specifically on contractual issues.
- Direct experience working with human resources in local country contexts, including in the Global South.
- Knowledge of the Danish labour market, in particular the public sector collective bargaining agreements, considered an advantage.
- Written and oral fluency in English is a requirement. Danish proficiency is considered an advantage, as are French and/or Spanish.
