Aerodynamic & Mechanical Hub Module Hub Structure

Vestas Power Solutions is an independent business unit within Vestas Wind Systems A/S responsible for product design including full profit and loss accountability for our products. Through innovation, development, and continuous product improvement we develop the products and technologies that reduce the cost of energy and bring the highest possible value to our customers.

The Hub module, as a part of the Vestas Power Solutions, is responsible for delivering innovative Hub units into the wind turbines of the future. Within the Hub module, the Hub Structure sub-module holds the end-to-end ownership and responsibility for the development of some of the key structural components. Our team is international and spread across sites in Denmark, India, and Portugal. With the current position we are now looking for strengthening our development engineering team in Aarhus, Denmark.

As part of Hub Structure, you will be joining a highly specialized and committed colleagues responsible for the design and structural integrity of the casted and machined hub, spinner and spinner support structure, bolted joints and fasteners. Maintaining a well-established closed quality loop, you will be supporting on structural root cause analyses, evaluating non-conformity requests while making sure of the relevant learnings are captured in the future designs. Besides, having the end-to-end ownership of the developed components, you will also be responsible maintaining and improving verification tools and methods.

Responsibilities
Your tasks will continuously vary in complexity and nature, but will mostly focus on new product development. A typical workflow might look like this:

  • Clarifying design requirements with all relevant stakeholders
  • Perform Failure Mode Analysis (i.e. DFMEA)
  • Verify design against requirements
  • Modify or propose modifications for CAD geometries if necessary
  • Iterating all above steps until an optimal design is achieved
  • To assist meet the constant issue of designing larger and more complex wind turbine structures, you'll also be expected to bring a spirit of innovation and healthy skepticism with respect to the way we plan and implement our work.
  • Above all, you'll be expected to work and act as part of a team, sharing knowledge, achievements and failures as part of one unit.

Qualifications

  • M.Sc. or Ph.D. within Mechanical/Structural/Civil/Aerospace engineering
  • 3-5 years relevant project experience from a similar role
  • Design, development and optimization of innovative mechanical components
  • Design of bolted joints and fasteners, understanding and applying of available standards and best practices
  • Static / Dynamic Finite Element Analysis (FEA) in; e.g. Ansys, Abaqus
  • Have a good understanding of CAD modelling in order to make small modifications to existing CAD models and efficiently communicate with CAD designers
  • Knowledge of Agile development methodologies and tools (e.g. Scrum) and Project Management or business education/experience.
