Cyber-Security and Railway Network Engineer

You have experience in service support of IT- and/ or railway systems? You have an interest in Information and Network Security? Then you may be our new Railway Cyber-Security and Network Maintenance Engineer.

The project

Thales Denmark A/S, with its partners, has been tasked by BDK to upgrade the railway signalling system in Jutland to an IT-based signalling system. The project consists of an update of approx. 1,200 km of the Danish railway network for the new European Train Control System (ETCS Level 2). We are strengthening our Customer Service team with an additional specialist for (Railway) Cyber-Security and Railway Network maintenance.

The position

As part of the Technical Support and Training Team within the Service organisation, and in regular contact with the Cyber Security Discipline Manager of the project, your main tasks will be to:

  • Participate in the definition and company-wide implementation of Information Security processes like Security Incident Management, Vulnerability Management, Business Continuity, Asset management, Access Control, etc. (based on contractual and ISO 27001 / ISO 27002 requirements)

  • Support maintenance of the Fjernbane Infrastructure Signalling System by troubleshooting, neutralising and resolving cyber-security-, software-, hardware- and network issues/ incidents

  • Repairing and replacing equipment as necessary

  • Document observations and solutions for railway network and security issues (in Service Management Tool Landscape and in Project Security Log), including appropriate traceability of causes, consequences, risk control measures, etc

  • Conduct so called “IT Operation activities” like operator user management, cluster management, access management, configuration management, backup & recovery, disaster recovery.

  • Training (typically training on the job) of other staff members to broaden cyber security awareness, thinking and acting


The position is located in Fredericia in Jutland (Jylland) and short travels to sites across all of Jutland as well as to Copenhagen are to be expected.

The position can include work in shifts, at night and during weekends, for instance when we commission new lines.

Your qualifications

In order to qualify for this position, you have:

  • A strong service mindset

  • Experience in maintenance of large complex infrastructure, IT and/ or rail signaling (ECTS) installation

  • Experience in service processes

  • Experience in IT and Security solutions (Cisco, VMWare, Windows, Linux)

  • Knowledge in in Cyber-Security (Mobile Device Management, Incident Management, Authentication, Certificates, Backup, ISO 27001/27002)

  • Relevant certifications will provide an advantage (CCNA, CCNP, A+, Network+, Security+, ITIL Foundation etc.)

  • An open mind-set, with a sharing and team-oriented approach

  • Preferred profile has an engineering or other relevant academic background

  • Danish fluency (native or on a professional level) and English on a professional level are required
