Part of the Youth Participation and Employment (YPE) program
Introduction
The Youth Participation and Employment (YPE) program addresses the crucial challenges of youth economic exclusion and lack of civic inclusion of youth. Funded by the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), YPE is part of MFA’s ‘Danish-Arab Partnership Programme’ (DAPP). Established in 2003, the vision of DAPP is to promote a democratic, prosperous and stable Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region through partnerships between Danish and Arab actors. The YPE focuses on involving young people in their countries’ development and strengthening employment opportunities and entrepreneurship in inclusive ways. Youth participation is crucial for reducing inequalities as well as for including young women, young people from rural and urban areas, youth with disabilities and other marginalized groups of youth.
The YPE program is embarking on a youth mapping research, as set out in these Terms of Reference in order to obtain a more diversified and complete overview of formal and informal youth-led groups, organisations, platforms and initiatives relating to economic participation of youth in the MENA region.
We are now looking for a young Community Networker based in Jordan which is one of the four countries involved for the period January 2020 – March 2021 in order to contribute to the mapping process, coordinate and gather the research findings in Jordan as part of a wider regional mapping.
The Community Networker will work together with a Technical Researcher [RvdW1] in Jordan in a research team. Together, they will lead and contribute to the mapping process in Jordan. The research team (Community Networker and Technical Researcher) will report to the Regional Research Coordinator who has the overall responsibility of the mapping and is coordinating and leading the mapping from a regional perspective.
Purpose and objectives
The purpose of the Community Networker is to identify and reach out to youth change makers in the area of economic participation. You will be supported by a young technical researcher in conducting short interviews with these youth change actors to learn about their objectives, challenges, needs, opportunities, and collaboration and networks. The role of the Community Networker in the research is to identify actors, make contact, and conduct the interviews. The role of the technical researcher is to identify interview methods and tools and document the interviews (by recording/filming and/or note taking, and transcribing/summarising the interviews). Together, you will analyse the results and identify and document conclusions, recommendations and lessons learned.
The Community Networker and the Technical Researcher work together as a national research under the supervision and support of the Regional Research Coordinator team to implement the youth mapping in Jordan ensuring that the process runs smoothly and reaches its objectives. In particular, the objectives of the Community Networker position are to:
Role and tasks of the Community Networker
Identify a wide and diverse range of youth actors
Make contact and conduct interviews with youth actors identified
Planning, coordinating and implementing the process of the mapping
Participate in the learning process
