Background
Oxfam IBIS’ Inclusive Peacebuilding team currently works with Oxfam Country Offices and civil society partners in more than 10 conflict-affected countries in Southern, East and West Africa, MENA and Latin America, to support community-level mediation and reconciliation and civil society-led peacebuilding through programming and policy efforts to advocate for inclusive peace processes at local, national and global levels.
Our peacebuilding work takes a conflict sensitive and inclusive approach with a strong focus on supporting local partnerships, working with and supporting women and youth organisa-tions, and where the Women, Peace & Security (WPS) agenda is one of our priority focus areas. Oxfam IBIS is currently looking to recruit a Peacebuilding Advisor to support a number of projects and initiatives.

Oxfam IBIS is currently looking to recruit a Peacebuilding Advisor to support a number of projects and initiatives.
Main Areas of Focus & Tasks
- Project cycle management of peacebuilding related projects and programme components: support to design, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and learning from Inclusive Peacebuilding projects, ranging from support to budgeting and activity planning on an annual basis, as well as ongoing provision of technical support and quality assurance of project activities and progress through regular follow-up with country-level counterparts.
(Please note that specific region/country focus is pending the candidate’s qualification, as well as upcoming responses on fundraising efforts by end December 2021) - Support development of tools, guidelines and strategies in relation to conflict analysis, conflict sensitivity, conflict transformation and mediation, and youth and women participation, as well as in relation to supporting local peace-building in new ways for Oxfam IBIS and the Oxfam confederation.
- Collaborate with relevant counterparts across Oxfam to identify strategic entry points for strengthening focus and emphasis on Oxfam’s work related to addressing structural causes of conflict, women’s leadership in crisis contexts (on issues related to peacebuilding), and youth engagement, as well as identifying “policy hooks” for strengthening the conflict “lens” as it relates to other Oxfam policy priorities related to inequality, gender, fragility etc.
- Support and input provision to Oxfam IBIS policy department on opinion pieces and communication development to grow Oxfam IBIS profile and public engagement work on peacebuilding, fragility and Women, Peace and Security.
- Support fundraising activities on peacebuilding related opportunities

Competencies
Functional Competencies:
- Knowledge and practical experience in peacebuilding programming and advocacy, including familiarity with conflict analysis, conflict-sensitivity, and peacebuilding programme design;
- Prior experience with project management in an international development context, including design, coordination and implementation;
- Committed to rights-based and inclusive approaches;
- Experience working with women rights organisations and/or youth organisations in the context of peacebuilding/conflict prevention considered a strong advantage;
- English (written and spoken) is a requirement and French is desirable
- Ability to and interest in working in a multicultural and multilingual work environment as you will be engaging with Oxfam Country Offices and Affiliates worldwide.
- Possess good networking and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to meet deadlines and manage one’s portfolio in a timely and responsible manner is key.
Required Skills and Experience
Academic Qualifications:
- University Degree in social science, sociology, political science, conflict & peace building, or any other related field.
Experience:
- Relevant experience in peacebuilding programming;
- Proven knowledge and experience working on peace building and conflict prevention issues at both local and national level;
- Experience with project cycle management, including financial and budgetary tasks
- Previous work experience in fragile country contexts (NGO, UN, or other) or from previous positions working in close collaboration with civil society partners in fragile country contexts considered an advantage.
