We are looking for a highly motivated and knowledgeable staff scientistto support the research and teaching of the section for Ecology and Evolution in the general areas of social evolution and biodiversity genomics. The starting date is 1 November 2023.
Our research
The research of the section focusses on applying evolutionary principles to ecological problems. This includes the study of community and interaction ecology, animal behaviour, social evolution (mostly using social insects as model organisms), evolutionary morphology, population genetics and the use of next-generation sequencing for phylogenomics and biodiversity genomics.
Your job
Your tasks will be to contribute to and support the research projects in the group on an ad hoc basis when needed, primarily supporting the entomological research of the section (but also supporting other areas when called for). Day-to-day work is expected to involve the collection of field material, and with the whole process of preparing, submitting, and interpreting the results of molecular sequencing. You will also be involved in the design of experiments, and with dissemination of research results to the scientific community and the general public. Participation in teaching in the research areas of the section is also expected.

Place of employment
The place of employment is at the Section for Ecology and Evolution, Department of Biology, University of Copenhagen. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in a dynamic and international research environment.
Terms of employment
The average weekly working hours are 37 hours per week.
The employment and salary is made in accordance with the Circular on the Collective Agreement concerning academics in the state sector concluded between the Ministry of Finance and AC (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).
Employment will be as academic research staff. The salary is based on seniority. Negotiation for salary supplement is possible. The employer will pay an additional 17.1 % pension contribution to the relevant pension fund.

Profile
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic research associate with the following competencies and experience:
- Familiarity with basic insect taxonomy
- Experience with designing and executing (entomological) field work
- Experience with rearing insects in the laboratory
- Experience with experimental animal behaviour
- Familiarity with a wide range of molecular genetic techniques
- Basic microscopy skills
- Guidance and assistance of students and postdocs
- Fluency in both Danish and English
In addition, possession of the following skills and experience will be advantageous:
- Laboratory management
- Database management
- Planning and executing teaching via lectures and student labs
- Experience with fluorescence microscopy
