In this role you will get involved in all aspects and stages of signalling projects from feasibility studies, technical system specification, architectural design, test and commissioning as well as providing advice for procurement or project business cases. To succeed in this role, you must have proven expertise in system design and/or delivery of ERTMS/ETCS projects from either the Client, Consultancy, or Supplier perspective. You will have the ability to act as a source of guidance and expertise both to clients and to colleagues, have the capability to explore and promote potential technology solutions, and match these to the needs of our clients. You will join our Digital Railway and Signalling department
As our new ERTMS/ETCS Systems Engineer you will be a very valuable team member in our Signalling department – one of five departments in the Rail division, placed at Ramboll headquarters in Copenhagen. Here you will be part of a professional, strong, and committed Rail business community with 270 people, including a strong signalling environment with more than 120 traffic and signalling engineers working across Ramboll in different countries. In the Signalling department in Copenhagen, we are currently heavily involved in the Danish Signalling Programme and other large, and complex signalling projects in the Nordic countries, and the UK. We have several active projects and assignments both locally and internationally – including relay based signalling systems, fully electronic systems, ERTMS/ETCS systems, and signalling systems for modern metro and light rail transport systems (e.g. CBTC). You will also assist in bidding for ETCS related work on international projects (especially within Europe).
Your key tasks and responsibilities will be:
As an ERTMS/ETCS system engineer in Ramboll you will be involved in a wide variety of projects, and you will work independently as well as in multi-disciplinary and international teams on all project phases. With an increasing focus on automated train control systems you will use your systems engineering skills to help clients specify, procure, and deliver ERTMS/ETCS systems.
Depending on the project, your key responsibilities may include one or more of the items listed below:

That you have an engineering degree within electronics, systems engineering or data communication and IT, with a minimum of 3 years’ hands on experience in design, construction, testing or operations in the railway domain with exposure to modern signalling systems (e.g. ETCS/ERMTS, CBTC GSM-R, FRMCS, Railway Signalling, Control systems, Operational Control).
You are aware of the rapid technical development in the Domain and have interest and knowledge about topics like automation, Cyber Security, data analytics or artificial intelligence and their application to Train control systems.
Personal qualities that will help you succeed in this role include: Being responsible, focused and systematic. You should also be fluent in written and spoken English, eager to be where the action is, have a strong technical capability in systems engineering, excellent communication skills (written and oral), and proven leadership abilities through working collaboratively with teams, peers and clients.
German speaking capabilities is a plus.
You should have a solution oriented, cooperative, and positive approach to your projects and appreciate working in an informal working environment, where you have a considerable influence on your own working day.
The job requires the ability to travel 20-30 days a year.

- Project engineering and management applying best practice in systems engineering.
- Leading technical deliveries in the development and implementation of ETCS.
- Provide technical ETCS and signalling expertise for our international Clients by participating in requirements specification, design, and implementation of signalling systems.
- Develop or review feasibility studies, concepts, system architectures and requirements.
- Develop and optimize operational concepts and interfaces.
- Tender preparation, supplier selection and contract management.
- Ensure development and transfer of knowledge and experience to your colleagues in our international Railway Signalling Spearhead.
