The Soft Matter Biophysics group at DTU Physics is seeking a talented Student Lab Assistant to contribute to the development of novel fluidic valves and help manage our labs.

The focus of this research assistant position is to further the development of fluidic devices with flexible elements that are able to passively control flow behavior. We are looking for a research assistant with an interest in fabrication and fluidic testing to help us build the next generation of devices. In addition to this work, you will also be responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the laboratories in the Soft Matter Biophysics group.

Responsibilities and tasks

You will be supporting the group in developing fluidic devices for a range of applications. You will be primarily designing, building and testing new designs to determine the relationship between structure and function.

Your responsibilities will include
  • Design and fabricating of new fluidic devices via 3D printing and casting techniques
  • Characterization of these devices (e.g., building fluidic systems, pressure/flowrate characterization)
  • Laboratory maintenance and organization


You will get the opportunity to develop your laboratory skills, build experience managing a laboratory and get hands on experience with sensors and fluidic systems.

Our expectations of you

You should have a strong interest in fabrication and/or laboratory work, and an interest in developing novel equipment or devices.

Required skills for this position:
  • Experience working in a laboratory/workshop environment
  • A background in coding and/or electronics (e.g., MATLAB, Python, C++, etc)


Ideal additional skills for this position:
  • Experience with 3D printing and 3D CAD
  • Experience working with fluidic systems

Salary and appointment terms

Salary and appointment terms are in accordance with the OAO-S Joint Agreement and the organization agreement for Office Clerks, Laboratory Technicians and IT staff (HK/stat).

Working hours are on average 7 hours per week and can be organized flexibly in relation to holidays, exams, etc. Starting date is 1 August 2021 (or according to mutual agreement). The employment runs as long as you are an active student.

The workplace is DTU Lyngby Campus.
