Power Solutions Vestas Power Solutions Blades Blades Module Shell, Webs and Components

The SWC (Shells, Webs and Components) team supports both new process development, technology projects and CIM cases in the Blade module.

The Shell, Webs and Components team is accountable for the blade design and process elements having the right Technical Readiness Level (TRL) and Manufacturing Readiness Level (MRL). It is also responsible for the manufacturing process design and development of wind turbine blades. The team is made up of enthusiastic employees located in Denmark, UK, Portugal and India.

This is an exciting position involving travel to Vestas blades manufacturing facilities around the world working on existing products but also participating in development projects. An important part of the role is to have a close collaboration with the shop floor as part of the technical transfer phase, prototyping factories, tooling engineers and technicians across the organization.

Responsibilities

As a composite component engineer, you will design optimized composite components that can be robustly manufactured. Mainly working in a multi-disciplined and cross-functional team you will:

  • Create, verify, and guide new infusion and cure concepts from laboratory environment and subscale trials into a full-scale production environment.
  • Develop and maintain PFMEA's and CTQ's to assess and monitor infusion and cure related risks.
  • Develop Process Requirement Specifications (PRS) for infusion machines, moulds, and cure aids.
  • Review and improve blade design drawings with process feedback.
  • Communication of process to prototyping factories by reviewing work instructions for local and global rollout.
  • Review drawings for procured parts of consumables setup or cure aids.
  • Engineering Change Management. Case handler for changes related to the above topics and secure controlled implementation

Qualifications

  • You will hold a bachelor or master's degree in engineering or equivalent, coupled with practical knowledge of composite manufacturing engineering with a focus on infusion and cure methods and technology
  • Experience with running optimization and process development projects in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience with Experimental design / Multivariable data analysis both planning and treatment of statistical data and tolerance analysis
  • Solid communication skills in English, orally and written

Location: the role is based in Lem, Denmark
