Chief Technical Officer (CTO) to FaunaPhotonics
Technology Lead to a start-up, where there the highway is built and focus is on Next Generations and Scalability
The role as as CTO offers the right candidate a unique opportunity to be part of an entrepreneurial company that is ready to launch their next-generation products built on a patented and unique technology platform. Investors and partners are already lining up. FaunaPhotonics expects rapid growth and is supported by committed investors and a professional board of directors.
Your role is to direct the future generations of products (hardware and embedded software), and to secure the structure around sourcing, testing, production through 3rd party vendors, and quality. As CTO you become an integral part in securing continuous success and expansion, and you are supported by a team of 10+ people.
In the role, you report to the CEO, is part of the senior management team and a 35+ organization, and works in a hybrid and out of the HQ in the South Harbour of Copenhagen.
About FaunaPhotonics and their Technology
FaunaPhotonics is developing in-field sensor tools to set new standards for monitoring insects within agricultural and environmental applications. Decision support tools that will lead to more sustainable plant breeding practices. By combining data analytics, machine learning and engineering skills with the expertise of international partners in agriculture and environmental protection, FaunaPhotonics is commercializing insect monitoring solutions internationally.
Status is that there is already an established partnerbase that uses the products in their technology and commercial solutions, which means that besides developing products and integrations, solutions are also needed. Technologies build on hardware, embedded software, electronics, and understanding of having products approved in the markets.
Leadership, Direction, and Vision about Next Generation Solutions
As CTO, you lead the development of the next generation LED based optical insect detection platform. Aim is to introduce a COGS reduced, easy-to-install, easy-to-use and robust commercial grade in-field sensor that can be produced in volume. You do this by leading, engaging, developing and retaining a team of 10+ highly skilled people.
To realize these ambitious objectives, you manage technology development for partners and new R&D initiatives. The tasks require a strong understanding of the customer, user needs and technical challenges of the sensor including embedded software, machine learning and cloud interfaces. You continiosly look into developing new generations of products.
Furthermore, you take responsibility of producing the required units and ensuring a proper quality assurance of the products. The production of units also includes sourcing and buy-in of components and servicing of sensor units once coming back from the field deployments.
A close interaction with the Chief Data Officer (CDO) is required, as the CDO takes responsibility from data leaving the sensor to the cloud interface. This requies technologies such as A.I. and machine learning, until the processed data reaches the software platforms of the customers. The software development towards customers digital platforms is managed by the Technology team. Other stakeholders are 3rd party vendors, partners and in future, customers.
Technology and Operations Executive with an Entreprenurial Mindset
As a leader and colleague, you are motivating, engaging and development oriented. You move with ease between strategic and operational tasks, and balance an interest for going understanding technology in-depth with operating at a holistic and strategic level. Towards your stakeholders, you are communicative, proactive, and with a strong wish to present the best technology innovations to the market. You describe yourself as structured, direction-setting and process-oriented, without jeopardizing innovation and agility.
Your distinct personal competencies are supplemented with professional experience in following:
- M.Sc. degree or higher in Engineering / Physics or similar.
- More than 10 years’ experience in apparatus development, including bringing products to the market, and e.g., understand the need for durability of the products.
- Experience in embedded software development from an industry that develops a combination of hardware and embedded software, and preferably linked to a cloud solution.
- Experience in transferring products from R&D to production, and next to this, preferably hands-on experience with production and quality assurance.
- Experience with development of electronics, and perhaps experience within optics.
- Fluency in English and located in driving distance to Copenhagen.
