The Danish Red Cross is looking for a Humanitarian Advisor to strengthen our work in needs assessments and operational management.

Disaster and Crisis
Danish Red Cross recently launched an ambitious new international strategy with the aim of making a difference for people living in complex and protracted crisis contexts with a focus on health, disaster management, and inclusion of marginalized groups. .

To achieve the ambitious goal of the DRC International Strategy of: Disasters damage fewer lives - People anticipate, cope with, and recover from crisis, Danish Red Cross is looking for a Humanitarian Advisor to be part of the Disaster and Crisis Response Unit.

The Disaster and Crisis Unit is part of the International Department. The Disaster and Crisis Unit work to support response operations in global humanitarian disasters and crises, ensure surge capacity, operational management and response support as well as provide strategic and technical guidance within disaster management.

About the position
DRC works with national Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in 16 countries across the Middle East, Europe, Asia and Africa to deliver humanitarian assistance to vulnerable populations. Besides our own humanitarian response, DRC work multilaterally with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

Your tasks will be to contribute to develop and strengthen the strategic approach to disaster and crises response. This includes ensure humanitarian standards, assess needs and capacities, analyse response options and design responses, build capacity of partners, contribute to the managing of response operations, and support the work to mobilize resources and raises funds for response operations.

A specific focus will be on drive and strengthen DRCs focus and approach to needs assessment. Additional task is to function as Operation Coordinator in relation to DRC response operations, promoting timeliness and quality in humanitarian response operations. Support the planning, implementation, and monitoring of humanitarian operations, and deploy as surge delegate (1-3 missions a year).

We are looking for a professional with strong experience within relevant field. You have a background in humanitarian sector and have experience from international disaster response operations. You have been working with disaster management in international operations and have experience from the field. We are looking for candidates that can work independently and who have strong interpersonal skills, are strategically, structured, and systematic and are able to drive and manage humanitarian response operations.

You are a good communicator, facilitator, and a team player. You have excellent Danish and English language skills. French and/or Arabic is considered an asset.

We are looking for candidates that can sign of to the below.

  • A minimum of 3-5 years’ relevant working experience, including international working experience from Red Cross Red Crescent Movement or similar large humanitarian NGOs
  • Humanitarian experience, including knowledge of and experience with operation management, relief operations, health in emergencies, cash and voucher assistance, or similar
  • Proven experience and technical knowledge of needs assessment and analysis of assessment and technical data
  • Experience working with local/national partners and working community-based
  • Ability to work under pressure in hectic environments
  • Flexibility and ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Detail-oriented and organized with strong interpersonal skills
  • Innovative, proactive and with strong interpersonal skills

  • Willing to participate in conference calls outside of regular business hours, and work remotely if needed.
  • Ability to travel internationally up to 1-3 month a year.

The position is a full-time position - 37 working hours per week. The position require flexibility as up to 1-3 months of travel a year is expected.

Salary and employment conditions will comply with Danish Red Cross’s collective bargain agreement with HK and AC.
