Maintenance Manager

Thales has been involved in Danish projects since 1991 and has established a formal country office in Denmark since January 2015 with the main office located in Søborg. Today, Thales in Nordic and Baltic countries (Thales-NBCO) employs approx. 1200 people (among which 700 coming from Gemalto).

Locally, Thales provides innovative solutions and advanced technologies within Defence, Ground Transportations and Air Traffic Management.

In 2012, Banedanmark (BDK), the Danish rail infrastructure, awarded a consortium composed of Thales and Strukton Rail with a contract to upgrade the Signaling system in Jutland, the Western part of Denmark (approx. 1.200 km of the Danish railway network) to the new European ETCS Level 2 system. Since then, Thales in Denmark has been working on the design and building of the system in close cooperation with Strukton Rail and Thales peers in Germany. Internally, the program is called the ‘F-Bane West program’ and includes a maintenance phase of the ROLs once delivered.

Description:

Reporting to the Project Director, the Maintenance Manager will be responsible for managing the F-Bane West’s Maintenance activities and the Maintenance team, which is located in Fredericia in Jutland. The overall goal for the position is to ensure an efficient maintenance of the newly implemented railway signalling system for the next 10 to 30 years. This will be an important role in order to provide a fully functional signalling system in Jutland according to the F-bane West contract’s service level goals.

The main purpose of the Maintenance team is to ensure the availability the of the railway signaling system in “West-Denmark” for safe and punctual railway travel (on railway lines where the new Thales ERTMS system is rolled out) :

  • operate Thales-Strukton's service desk 24/7
  • monitor the alarms of Banedanmark's signalling system
  • in case of system failure, secure a quick and efficiently correction with the least possible inconvenience to the train operation
  • in case of critical incident, ensure that necessary personnel and backup resources are activated
  • contribute to implement solutions to avoid incidents with engineering
  • ensure preventive maintenance.

Key Responsibilities and tasks for the Maintenance Manager:

  • Overall management of all the maintenance activities, by managing a big team of external and internal resources for corrective and preventive maintenance (locally on the track, and centrally from Fredericia)
  • Collaborate with the customer. Lead all discussions with the customer maintenance manager. Drive the maintenance for high customer satisfaction.
  • Ensure that contract obligations are fulfilled and that maintenance concept is in line with the contract, keep milestones
  • Define logistics and spare part strategy for the maintenance execution
  • Plan resources for the project and for the maintenance service desk
  • Risk management, mitigation and control: Keep risk register updated with the maintenance team and participate in monthly risk-management meetings with the project-management team
  • Main point of contact to the back-office maintenance team
  • Keep the Maintenance budget on track and report deviations if needed
  • Collaborate with the other departments to ensure that maintenance is taken into consideration during design and installation, and to implement solutions to avoid incidents during operation
  • Responsible for Health and Safety for the maintenance activities

Skills and experience:

  • Extensive experience in the management of service delivery
  • Experienced people/project manager with solid interpersonal skills
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Knowledge on local laws and conditions for working in the railway environment
  • Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural team over several countries
  • Good knowledge of rail industry Signalling and Communication systems
  • Experience within maintenance execution or maintenance projects
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with ability to adapt message content depending on audience
  • Excellent in Danish and English, written and verbal
  • Team spirit, accountable, time keeper
