About the Department
The team plays a critical role in the design and development of Novo Nordisk’s future device portfolio, and employees work alongside designers and engineers to deliver meaningful prototypes. The team is driven, open-minded, and creative while working within a fun environment with a strong team culture. The team is part of larger department, inclusive of product designers and user experience researchers.
The department sits within Novo Nordisk Device Research & Development; the area responsible for the development of medical devices for self-treatment within all business areas of Novo Nordisk A/S.
Device R&D is located in Hillerød, Denmark.
The Job
As a model maker or prototype specialist, you will work with project designers and engineers to create prototypes and test fixtures that support the development of future devices. You will use creative problem solving in combination with skilled craftsmanship to create meaningful prototypes; at times representing functionality, and at other times representing physical attributes and appearance.
You will also be working alongside teams creating novel drug delivery systems, where existing technology does not suffice or predicate technologies may not exist. In these projects, you and your colleagues will be challenged to come up with effective ways to prototype and visualize these new technologies.
Your prototypes will be used in a variety of places throughout the organization; by project teams to take decisions on concepts, by managers looking to secure stakeholder input and alignment, and by researchers who are evaluating new devices with end users. You play a critical role in the design and development of our future device portfolio.
As a team member, you will work alongside other skilled model makers or prototype specialists, some of whom specialise in traditional hand-building, and others who specialize in 3D printing. All members of the team have traditional hands-on prototyping skills and also have a familiarity with CAD programs. You and your colleagues will report to the Head of Design, User Experience and Prototypes.
Qualifications
We expect you to hold a Professional Education with 5-10 years of relevant professional experience within a relevant technical area. Below are some qualifications and competencies we are ideally seeking:
- A demonstrated track record of excellence, passion and high ambition
- A strong portfolio illustrating this proven track record
- Aptitude for solving complex problems and finding solutions
- Mastery of various machinery, including milling machines, lathes, drill presses, etc..
- Comprehensive understanding of materials, including metals, plastics, and woods.
- General understanding of mechanical design
- Familiarity with CNC-assisted machinery
- Familiarity with 3D printing platforms and software
- Familiarity with CAD/CAM
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
As a person, you are open minded and keen to collaborate and communicate in a constructive manner with various stakeholders. Proficiency in written and spoken English and Danish is expected. You have a strong personal drive enabling you to persistently pursue your goals and achieve excellent results. Additionally, you are curious by nature and you are very service minded, as you will be servicing many different stakeholders who come to you with many different questions and needs.
