Over the coming years, Novo Nordisk R&D will identify and execute on new strategic priorities, enabling the build-up of a more diverse, dynamic and scientifically leading pipeline of drug discovery and development projects and an R&D organisation equipped to develop these into innovative treatment options, for patients with significant unmet needs.

About the department

The R&D Strategy & Portfolio Management unit serves as an internal staff function collaborating across the R&D organisation to develop, refine and facilitate the execution of strategies to meet the R&D aspirations for Novo Nordisk.

The team is overall responsible for driving strategic initiatives across the R&D organisation and collaborate across the Novo Nordisk value chain to arrive at well-founded recommendations that ultimately impact the future of Novo Nordisk.

The unit directly supports and reports to the top management in R&D and consists of a mix of experienced profiles with scientific, business and consultancy background as well as a mix of nationalities. We are a tight-knit unit which is characterised by an informal atmosphere with emphasis on having a fun and engaging working environment. While we are deeply dedicated to our tasks, we maintain focus on preserving a healthy work-life balance.

The position

You will report to the head of R&D Strategy and be involved in driving strategy processes and projects with impact on the strategic direction of the global R&D organisation. A large part of our deliverables is anchored at executive level and require the ability to collaborate and facilitate across professional disciplines, including R&D, Finance and the Commercial business units.

The position provides a high level of visibility as well as accountability and hands on interaction throughout the R&D value chain. The position requires a good understanding of the pharma value chain. This must be combined with a well-developed project management tool-box, a strategic mindset and the willingness and ability to work across both the R&D and NN value chain.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a balanced profile of scientific and business competencies combined with the ability to effectively communicate and work across the value chain. Alternatively, you have a strong understanding of the commercial space, combined with relevant experience related to the R&D process and the interplay between R&D and commercial considerations in relation to pharmaceutical product development.

We encourage candidates with a variety of backgrounds to apply, but you are required to have a relevant high-level life-science education combined with documented experience from the pharmaceutical industry. In addition to this, you have proven project management experience from projects with a strategic angle. This experience probably comes from your previous experience from a role with management/project management responsibility in a pharmaceutical company, possibly combined with prior experience from a top-tier consultancy. You are a skilled presenter you are well experienced in structuring material to allow efficient decision-making. Finally, you have proven experience of working across complex matrix organisations.

As a person, you are ambitious, flexible and able to build trusting relationships, also at senior levels across the organisation.
