As head of the Translational Science & Biomarker Team within Research & Early Development you will have a unique opportunity to strengthen the interface between early drug discovery and clinical development focusing on improving understanding of disease biology and clinical outcomes.

You have a strong and proven track record within development and validation of biomarker assays as translatable measures of target engagement, pharmacodynamic response and disease progression. As a scientist you are data-driven and have a broad understanding of the bioanalysis requirements needed to support PKPD understanding and clinical dose-setting.
The position:
You will be manager of the Translational Science & Biomarker Team consisting of 10 highly skilled, dedicated, and experienced Technicians and Scientists within bioanalysis, histology and immunology. As one of four teams within the In Vivo Biology and Safety Department we are responsible for identification, development and execution of biomarker assays for preclinical in vivo pharmacology studies. We develop biomarker assays for quantitative assessment of target engagement in first-in-man clinical trials. And we support the entire drug development chain with molecular histology analyses from early idea generation and target validation to clinical studies. With your translational mindset you will lead the team to optimally support early and late stage projects with relevant and high-quality biomarker analyses.
You will join a team characterized by an open informal working atmosphere and a collaborative and knowledge sharing mindset where new ideas are highly valued. We work in close collaboration with our colleagues in DMPK, Translational Medicine and Clinical Pharmacology.

Your role will be to:
- Lead, motivate and develop a team of dedicated specialists, including taking responsibility for people development, individual goal setting and ensuring team efficiency.
- Build strong relations to key stakeholders across the organisation to impact forward- and back-translation activities and strengthen translational research.
- Contribute to strategic planning and drive strategic initiatives within the area of translational research to strengthen the interface between early research and clinical development.
- Promote and nurture a culture of trust, helpfulness and collaboration across the teams within the In Vivo Biology & Safety Department and between departments in Skin Research.
- Keep your team professionally on top of trends and state-of-the-art technologies within biomarker analysis.
- Be involved in strategic discussions in the In Vivo Biology and Safety Department and Skin Research extended leadership teams.
Your qualifications:
- +5 years in a pharmaceutical company research environment and a PhD in biochemistry, biology, biomedicine or related field.
- Previous leadership roles as line manager or experienced project leader/coordinator in a pharma/biotech setting and experience with building, motivating and setting direction for high-performing teams.
- Extensive knowledge of discovery, development and utilization of biomarkers and their associated technologies in a research or clinical setting.
- Good insight into biomarker analytical methodologies, such as ligand-binding assays (e.g. MSD, ELISA, AlphaLISA) and ideally also histological analyses, RNA analysis and flow cytometry.
- Experience in immunology and diseases driven by inflammatory processes.
- A strong team player, who easily builds and maintains both internal and external relationships to create synergy and foster collaboration.
- It will be considered an advantage if you have worked with both biologics and small molecule drugs.
- If you have a veterinary background, previous experience with auditing of lab animal facilities will be considered a plus.
