The SDU Software Engineering Section at the Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Institute at University of Southern Denmark (SDU) in Odense invites applications for open positions in the fields data analytics, optimization, and simulation (3-year period).

The SDU Software Engineering section is currently expanding its engagement in modelling, simulation and data analytics, especially in the areas of IoT and usage of sensor data for enhancing modelling and simulation processes. In particular in relation to SDU's state-of-the-art Industry 4.0 Lab, which is the largest of its kind in Denmark and houses the newest robotics technology, storage cells, mobile robots, AR/VR technology, and digital twin technology.

Initially, the research will be linked to the project Farm SustainaBL, related to the use of data analytics and optimization for decision support in precision farming. The main objective of the project is to develop a web based platform that collects and analyse all the aforementioned data for providing recommendations to the livestock farming stakeholders (farmers, consultants etc) in order to take management decisions for reducing GHG emissions.

Job description

  • You will conduct research on the use of data analytics, simulation, and optimization.
  • You will be responsible for the daily supervision of Master and Bachelor students that perform research on this topic.
  • You will support teaching activities in the Software Engineering section.
  • You will participate in and help manage national and European research projects (both in collaboration with industry and fundamental).
  • You will publish and present your work both at international conferences and in scientific journals with high impact.
  • You will assist in writing research grants for various national and European funding agencies (e.g., H2020, DFF, IFD).

Profile and requirements

  • You have a PhD degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Informatics or equivalent.
  • You have solid experience in the use of optimization, data analytics and simulation.
  • You have published in high-impact conferences and journals in the broad field of data analytics and simulation.
  • You are a team player and have strong communication skills.
  • You are fluent in English, both spoken and written.
  • A track record in participating in national and/or European research projects is a plus.
  • You have knowledge of and experience with software development and programming

Conditions of employment
Employment as an assistant professor requires scientific qualifications at PhD level and is a 3-year temporary position. The employment will cease without further notice at the end of the period.

The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Please check links for more information on salary and taxation.

The starting date for the positions is preferably April 15, 2022, but will be agreed upon with the successful candidate.
