The Research Unit of General Practice, Department of Public Health, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Southern Denmark (SDU), invites applications for a full-time position as Assistant Professor in Public Health.
The position runs from May 1, 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is a two-year full-time position.
The research unit
The research unit houses around 60 people in an interdisciplinary environment with research collaboration between general medicine, psychology, theology, sociology of religion, anthropology, medical risk communication, statistics, health economics, occupational therapy, nursing, midwifery, and public health science. The unit's interdisciplinary collaboration incorporates multiple methods, both within quantitative and qualitative research. The Research Unit’s foremost goal is to contribute to the improvement and development of the health of patients in the healthcare system, with particular focus on the efforts in and around general practice.
In addition to having several PhD students and Postdoc students, the Research Unit of General Practice is responsible for the research training program for General Practitioners. The Research Unit is established as a cooperation between the University of Southern Denmark and an external research unit financed by the Research Foundation of General Practice.
Your job responsibilities as assistant professor
The main research task will be independent research of high international quality, including publication in international journals and communication in national and internationally academic networks. You will contribute to the development of the department both independently and in collaboration with others through your research of high international quality. You possess excellent collaborative skills, and the ability to establish and develop broad academic network, which can be activated in your contribution to the academic development and profile.

Your competences
You will be expected to have postdoctoral or similar training after PhD and must have demonstrated solid and relevant research documented through international peer-reviewed publications. A track record of participating in applications for external funding will be seen as an asset, and applicants with research interests that complement the on-going research within the Research Unit will be preferred.
Further, you will be able to demonstrate considerable experience in complex and/or large datasets of health data (including linked data) that encompasses statistical analysis, interpretation, and presentation of results.
You have experience in the conduct and analysis of epidemiological studies, and/or qualitative studies, and proven ability to prepare scientific reports and manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals
As a person, you are dedicated and able to contribute to a good work environment by building relationships and trust. You are a professional with a positive attitude, a strong work ethic, and always ready and available to take responsibility and get the job done.
You possess excellent time management and organization skills and have the ability to work effectively within the context of a multidisciplinary team to facilitate research outcomes
We expect you to be fluent in oral and written English.
Teaching qualifications
You will be expected to possess documented teaching qualifications and experience. It is seen as an advantage if you already have completed a professional postgraduate lecturer training course (“universitetspædagogikum”), have documented experience from administrative tasks such as module coordination, and have participated in supervision of postgraduate students.

- Working with and publishing (population-based) registries-based data, and other related tasks including data acquisition, data cleaning, organizing, and analyzing
- Preparation of research and report documentation, and manuscripts for peer-review
- Assisting with protocol development for new data studies, reviewing the literature on relevant topics and contributing to a team environment
- Collating datasets ready for epidemiological analysis and conducting analysis following approval of research protocols
- Teaching, guidance, and examination of master’s degree students primarily within Public Health Science
- Development of international networks and collaborations in research and teaching, and contributions towards attracting external research funding
