About the position
As a Development Scientist you will become a part of the Microbial Upstream development team and join 19 dedicated colleagues. The team's primary task is to develop microbial fermentation processes, produce material for non-clinical trials and tests and secure transfer to large-scale production. The work is primarily carried out in bioreactors from 2L to 200L, as continuous or fed batch cultivations.
Your responsibilities will include:
• Development of fermentation processes for new therapeutic proteins at laboratory and pilot scale
• Transfer and scale-up of fermentation processes to GMP pilot plants and production of drug substance for clinical trials
• Documentation of process robustness and scalability
You will encounter technical and scientific challenges and work continuously to improve our processes. Collaboration is a key part of the way we work, and you will be working in an engaging scientific environment and in cooperation with colleagues from several different nationalities and scientific areas.

• Ph.D. or Master's degree in chemical engineering, science, cand. scient. or similar
• Experience with cultivations in laboratory, pilot, or production scale
• Theoretical and practical skills within yeast/E. coli physiology and fermentation
• Familiar with state-of-the art cultivation systems/bioreactors
Knowledge about initial recovery processes (not a must)
• Team player
• Excellent communication skills
• Fluent in English
• Thrive in a changing and dynamic work environment
• Coordination skills
About the department
In Upstream Development, we develop the cultivation and recovery processes for new therapeutic proteins. The department consists of approximately 50 people in four teams, working with microbial and mammalian cultivation processes and cell banks. This position is within the Microbial Upstream Development team, which consists of 7 scientists and 10 laboratory technicians. We have flexible working conditions where you will work both in Bagsværd, in the laboratory, and from home.
