Get introduced to CMC Chemical Development and meet some of our employees by visiting our career site About the area In Chemical Development, we are responsible for developing the synthetic processes required to produce the active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) for Novo Nordisk's new and innovative product portfolio. These processes encompass chemical modification of recombinantly-produced proteins, as well as chemical synthesis of peptides, oligonucleotides, small molecules and novel excipients. Our work spans various stages of development, from clinical trials to commercial manufacturing. As we expand into more synthetic API production platforms, Chemical Development is becoming an increasingly significant growth area for Novo Nordisk. Our team in Chemical Development currently consists of 80+ chemists and laboratory technicians, and we have access to state-of-the-art chemistry laboratory facilities in Bagsværd (DK) and offices in Boston (USA). Our facilities enable us to support various types of work, including isotope chemistry, scale-up productions, and standard process development. The position As Scientist you will work in our laboratory-based chemical development teams. We support projects from pre-clinical to clinical Phase III stages in close collaboration with multiple stakeholders including discovery teams, analysis teams, pilot facilities, and external partners. You will be working actively in our laboratories conducting experiments to develop new greener chemistries that will reduce the environmental impact of our processes, whilst also increasing productivity and capacity. To achieve your goals, you will work closely together with scientists in the department, as well as with external collaborators at CMOs and in academia. Your primary work objectives will be to:
  • Plan and conduct experimental work in our laboratories to assess and develop new chemical manufacturing methodologies/technologies
  • Manage the project, organise meetings with key stakeholders and keep up-to-date on developments in the scientific literature
  • Work closely together with external collaborators and ensure project progression according to plans
  • Present project progression at internal, external meetings and scientific conferences
  • Co-author patents and scientific papers
  • This job is a 2-year temporary position, with the possibility of becoming a permanent position as we are a rapidly expanding area. Qualifications The main qualifications are as follows:
  • PhD or equivalent in synthetic organic chemistry
  • Several years of post-doctoral training or industry experience within synthetic organic chemistry
  • Effectively communicate and collaborate with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Fluency in written and spoken English

As a person, you possess a solution-oriented mindset and have a strong practical capability to translate theory into real solutions.
