Get introduced to CMC Chemical Development and meet some of our employees by visiting our career site About the area In Chemical Development, we are responsible for developing the synthetic processes required to produce the active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) for Novo Nordisk's new and innovative product portfolio. These processes encompass chemical modification of recombinantly-produced proteins, as well as chemical synthesis of peptides, oligonucleotides, small molecules and novel excipients. Our work spans various stages of development, from clinical trials to commercial manufacturing. As we expand into more synthetic API production platforms, Chemical Development is becoming an increasingly significant growth area for Novo Nordisk. Our team in Chemical Development currently consists of 80+ chemists and laboratory technicians, and we have access to state-of-the-art chemistry laboratory facilities in Bagsværd (DK) and offices in Boston (USA). Our facilities enable us to support various types of work, including isotope chemistry, scale-up productions, and standard process development. The position As Associate Manager for the Internal Late-Stage Project team in Chemical Development in Bagsværd, you will build and lead a team that is responsible for developing our Phase III processes and maturing them towards our commercial manufacturing facilities. The primary focus of the team is to secure robustness and scalability of our protein-modification and semi-synthetic API processes, as well as to define process control and supply chain strategies. You will work together with our colleagues in commercial production to adjust the process to their facilities and help in the characterization, justification, and validation of the process. A special attention to the balance between internal regulatory requirements and expectations from the authorities, will also be of importance. Your primary tasks will be to:
  • Build a new team and help position it in the organization, i.e., define roles & responsibilities with stakeholders regarding various deliveries

  • Keep yourself updated with the team’s projects, know when to get involved, and take action when needed

  • Place the well-being of your team at the centre of your attention, be present and supportive, and use your skills to build a trustful working environment

  • Empower, motivate, and develop employees by acknowledging their differences and taking advantage of diversity, as well as help to balance high ambitions and tight deadlines

  • Communicate clearly and effectively within the team, but also with collaboration partners/stakeholders

  • Support the team in collaborating with our commercial manufacturing facilities, and in creating effective regulatory control strategies for Clinical Trial Applications and market submissions

  • As Associate Manager you will be part of the leadership team in Chemical Development, which is composed of 8 managers/team leaders that meet weekly, support each other, and routinely use each other as sparring partners. Qualifications We are looking for an Associate Manager who is passionate about people management, collaboration and chemical manufacturing. To succeed in this role, you will need:
  • A PhD or MSc in organic chemistry, chemical engineering, or a related field

  • Leadership experience and a natural desire to engage, develop and empower people

  • Previous experience from cGMP-regulated chemical manufacturing areas and/or from the pharmaceutical industry

  • Understands how to work with CDMOs and/or has experience from Novo Nordisk

  • Proficiency in writing and reviewing regulatory and quality documentation

  • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with both internal and external collaboration partners

  • Fluency in written and spoken English
