Would you like to join an interdisciplinary project team that develops concepts and supports our journey to create novel oral biologics that will change the treatment paradigm for a broad range of chronic diseases? Are you motivated by hands-on driving early scientific innovation for the life-changing benefit of patients? Then this is your opportunity in Oral Delivery Technologies. Apply now!
The position
As a senior/research scientist your main objective will be to focus on developing innovative oral drug delivery devices. Specifically, you will contribute to the ideation, engineering, prototyping, and evaluation of novel oral device concepts “ingestible microrobots” as part of an interdisciplinary project team. These activities build on the ground-breaking concepts developed in collaboration with the Langer Lab at MIT, including the SOMA (Abramson et al., Science, 2019), L-SOMA (Abramson et al., Nat Biotechnol, 2021) and LUMI (Abramson et al., Nat Med, 2019).
The team consists of mix of professionals with experience in multiple natural sciences and engineering disciplines, as well as our R&ED organization. Your primary responsibility will be to contribute to the design and characterization of oral device concepts by sharing your knowledge of oral drug delivery technologies, gastrointestinal tract (GIT) physiology, formulation, material science, and biomedical engineering. Furthermore, you will design and conduct experiments to support our cutting-edge science.
The job offers you a high level of independence and flexibility within the research project framework. Working alongside talented colleagues, you will share ideas and inspiration across a breadth of different scientific disciplines and have the opportunity to collaborate across our global sites.
We are looking for exceptional people of varying experience and competency levels. Reflecting this, the role can be at the level of research or senior scientist and this will be evaluated during the process.
Qualifications
Hold a relevant PhD degree in engineering sciences, life sciences, or other relevant discipline. You have knowledge of biomedical engineering with a focus on drug delivery and are proficient within medical device innovation.
Additionally, you should hold the below qualifications:
You are excellent at managing stakeholders, can easily collaborate cross-departmentally, have sound personal judgement, and are used to clearly presenting scientific data. You have a flexible mind-set and find it motivating to work in a dynamic project environment. Moreover, you are a team player with a constructive attitude who takes pride in understanding and challenging science. You should value knowledge sharing with other scientists and possess good networking and communication skills and the ability to drive projects from an idea to practice. Lastly, you are creative in finding solutions to scientific challenges encountered during your research.
