The position In this role, you will lead and develop experts within protein and peptide chemistry. You let your passion for science and drug discovery shine to naturally set strategic directions and business targets for the department while ensuring a sustainable and engaging working environment.Solid-phase peptide synthesis and chemical modification of recombinant proteins and peptides lie at the heart of the department. The new department will prepare innovative compounds for all therapy areas of Novo Nordisk, relying on state-of-the-art discovery capabilities, IPR insights and world-leading competencies in protein and peptide drug discovery. The department will be involved in many exciting projects of the Novo Nordisk pipeline, where collaboration with high-level partners from academia and industry is becoming increasingly important.Your responsibilities include: Lead, inspire and further develop a team of scientists and lab technicians Plan and scope the scientific work required to progress projects in alignment with key stakeholders in the R&D organisation Build a bold and aspiring innovation culture in Research Chemistry Take part in our digital transformation journey and drive automation initiatives in close collaboration with scientists from Global Research Technologies You will become part of a deeply dedicated leadership team where you will help set the strategic direction for the Research Chemistry area. You will work to ensure adequate allocation of resources consistent with overall R&D priorities while keeping a holistic view on the long-term goals of Novo Nordisk. Qualifications To thrive and succeed in the role, we expect you to have: Ph.D. in organic chemistry, chemical biology, or relevant biopharmaceutical science At least 5 years of relevant experience, preferably from the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry Proven track record within medicinal chemistry, as evidenced by publications/patents and an international network within the field Strong leadership background with an evident commitment to creating winning teams with a focus on continuous people development. Proactive and visible leadership style and ability to set meaningful and clear directions in a complex environment with many stakeholders Excellent collaboration and communication skills across all organisational levels, functions, and cultures High level of personal engagement, drive, independence and integrity About the department The Research Chemistry area is a central part of Global Research Technologies with employees in Måløv (Copenhagen area), DK and Boston, MA. In Måløv, we are now expanding by forming a new department, which will be responsible for the generation of synthetic peptides and modified proteins to sustain a portfolio of oral and injectable biologics, and other molecular modalities, across the entire Novo Nordisk research portfolio. We aspire to drive innovation by applying a curiosity-driven mindset and openness to new technologies and deep chemistry expertise. We expect that 15 scientists at all levels and lab technicians will work in this department, and the new manager will drive the recruitment of top talents at all job levels.Research & Development is vital to Novo Nordisk’s continuous growth.
