The position The Head of Department manages specialist employees/ supervisors within own discipline or sub-function; or manages business support or technical/operational production team(s). will be accountable for team performance and results. Adapts departmental plans and priorities to address resource and operational challenges. Understands the core competencies/skills in the function and the value chain of the company. Decisions are guided by policies, procedures and business plan, per guidance from superior. Provides technical guidance to employees, colleagues and/or customers. Typically reports to a VP or CVP. You will be leading the New Modalities and Drug Delivery team within the Novo Nordisk Artificial Intelligence and Digital Research (AIDR) Computational Biology department. Your other key responsibilities will include, but not limited to:
  • Wil be responsible for the management of the New Modalities & Drug Delivery (NMDD) department within the AIDR Computational Biology VP area.
  • Line management of computational biologists within NMDD department including responsibility for safety and well-being of staff.
  • Sets the research and operational strategy for the NMDD department in collaboration with other AIDR CB department heads and other AIDR stakeholders.
  • Interacts with stakeholders in Global Drug Discovery to ensure NMDD department resourcing is aligned with the global drug discovery portfolio.
    • Qualification
  • PhD or MSc with +5year experience in a research environment
  • Minimum 3 years of leadership experience in drug discovery, preferably in a pharmaceutical industry setting.
  • Deep scientific understanding and experience applying computational biology to at least one of the cell therapy or gene therapy areas.
  • Experience dealing with diverse NGS data including WGS, WES, RNASeq, scRNASeq, proteomics and metabolomics.
  • Understanding of the drug discovery and development value chain especially in cell or gene therapies.
  • Behavioural and collaboration skills to ensure a healthy and engaging working environment with focus on innovation and ambitious goals and with a patient-centered business approach.
    • About the department AIDR Computational Biology is a global department with colleagues in China, Denmark, the United Kingdom, and the United States. This role will lead a team based in Denmark. Our scientists have significant expertise across a diverse set of disciplines in computational biology, bioinformatics, and machine learning, including multi-omic data analysis, functional genomics, systems biology and biomarker analysis. The focus of the New Modalities and Drug Delivery team is the application of computational biology, machine learning, omics and functional genomics technologies to the development of Novo Nordisk’s Cell Therapy and Global Nucleic Acid Therapy portfolios. Through the use of computational biology this team is helping drive a new generation of cutting-edge cell and gene-based therapies for our patients. The AIDR team sits within the wider Digital Science & Innovation (DSI) organisation. DSI is supporting the digital journey across all our therapy areas in Novo Nordisk Research and Early Discovery (R&ED). In DSI, we work in multidisciplinary teams – in strong collaboration with all areas across R&ED and R&ED IT. We participate in drug development projects across the value chain, from early discovery to pre-clinical development. We engage in external collaborations to ensure access to the latest research and technology enablers, and we automate our labs and processes, and we focus on developing and retaining top talent.
