About the department
At Novo Nordisk we have an increased strategic focus on Business Development. Commercial Business Development & Alliance Management enables late stage and commercial deal making for Novo Nordisk and drive world-class business development with the ambition to position Novo Nordisk as the Partner of Choice. The department is responsible for end-to-end business development within digital health and commercialisation as well as products beyond clinical proof of concept through bespoke deal making (M&A, licensing, collaborations etc.). Furthermore, the department drives coordination and governance of business development projects across Novo Nordisk.
The position
As our new Business Development Manager, you will work on end-to-end business development projects (scouting, evaluation, negotiation and closing agreements) for Novo Nordisk’s pipeline and equity investments.
As we are seeing an increasing deal volume, Novo Nordisk is implementing a New Business Development Framework to secure efficient prioritization and execution of external opportunities. You will be responsible for the management, maintenance as well as driving continuous improvements of this framework, which will be an enabler to reach our strategic ambition, and require working across the organisation with a high degree of exposure. Finally, you will co-manage our company-wide network of Business Development professionals.
You will report to the Corporate Vice President of Commercial Business Development & Alliance Management.
Key responsibilities
- In collaboration with your colleagues, you will drive business development opportunities through all phases from initial assessment to deal closing, leading relevant cross functional teams, e.g. finance, patent, legal, R&D, regulatory affairs, marketing, operations
- You will participate in negotiations with counterparts at senior management level
- You will ensure stakeholder alignment and commitment both at senior mgmt. level and at operational /cross-functional level
- You will drive roll-out of our Business Development network and manage ongoing activities together with co-leads
- You will lead specific projects/initiatives to continuously improve Novo Nordisk’s Business Development strategy, processes and governance
Experience
You have been working within the area for some years with good results. Here you have shown a strong understanding of different business processes in a large and complex organisation and a proven track record of successfully driving Business Development activities. You have excellent collaboration skills and are used to navigating in a multifunction and cross-cultural environment.
On a personal level you proactively seek the information you need. You are analytical and your approach to problem solving is based on your systematics and ability to see things in a larger perspective. You take pride in making complicated material simple and easy to act from. You are a strong communicator and demonstrate proactive stakeholder management at all levels.
- Experience in pharma / biotech / business development
- Proven track record of activities with relevance for Business Development
- Thorough knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry
- Good understanding of the pharma value chain, functional areas, their responsibilities and decision-making processes
Firm understanding of multicultural impact on business relationships including experience in working in an international context and environment
