Ballerup

Are you a protein expert who is looking for a job with impact, exciting scientific challenges and the opportunity to take active part in exploration of potential drug targets and screening for future drug compounds? Then this may just be the job for you!

LEO Pharma has set the ambitious goal to be pioneering in dermatology and become the world’s preferred dermatology care partner. As a scientist in Proteins & Assays team within LEO Research, you will play a crucial role in a key strategic initiative of expanding our protein competencies and strengthening our platform for hit identification in early discovery projects.

About you

You have a strong and proven track record working with protein-protein interactions, biophysics, protein design and analysis of protein behaviour in complex systems (e.g. intracellular or on membranes).

As a scientist you are curious by nature and tackle scientific challenges with a positive and constructive can-do-attitude.

You are an excellent collaborator and communicator, and you thrive in a setting with multiple internal and external collaboration partners.

You thrive at working on the interface between disease biology and protein technology, where your technical and analytical expertise complements efforts to realize new treatment strategies against unmet medical needs.

Ideal qualifications include:

  • PhD in biophysics, biochemistry, biology or a related field, with 2+ years of pharma/biotech/postdoc experience
  • Strong knowledge in analyzing protein-protein interactions (e.g. by using SPR, BLI, fluorescence-based methods, NMR or other)
  • Knowledge in protein biophysics, production (up-/downstream), engineering and structure exploration (experimental or in silico)
  • Hands-on experience with antibodies, either as drug modalities or analysis tools
  • Experience of studying proteins in complex systems (e.g. intracellular or on membranes)

Proteins & Assays, your new team

You will join our Protein & Assays team, consisting of 5 dedicated and highly skilled technicians and scientists. A key responsibility for our team is to enable and coordinate protein activities within our research projects.

Specific tasks include running assays sensitive to modulating protein interactions (e.g. by using SPR, fluorescence-based methods etc.), coordinating protein engineering and production activities as well as charactering proteins to ensure high quality.

Along with our colleagues in the department of In Vitro Biology, we utilize a broad range of biophysical and in vitro biological technologies available either internally or via our external network. Furthermore, we participate in the evaluation and ranking of modes-of-actions for new protein-targeting drug modalities.

Our team is characterized by an open and collaborative working atmosphere, and we see knowledge sharing and helpfulness as being key to our joint success in the team. We work in close collaboration with our colleagues within Medicinal Chemistry, and our protein and assay deliveries are key for screening and validating new chemical compound hits and fuelling the research pipeline with new projects.

Your new role

As our new talented protein scientist, you will:

  • Establish, optimize and run biophysical and protein interaction assays in close collaboration with technicians, and analyze and report the results
  • Leverage your strong protein structure and engineering expertise to directly contribute to projects by solving function and assay questions (e.g. regarding protein ID and quality as well as structure, labelling and tagging)
  • Coordinate with external CROs regarding protein production and hit screening/validation
  • Stay updated on trends and state-of-the-art technologies within analysis of protein structure, function and interactions, while building and maintaining a network of key external collaborators

Furthermore, you possess:

  • Ability to learn quickly and to apply your new skills to solve scientific questions
  • Effective project management skills to drive new initiatives forward
  • Good interdisciplinary team working skills and the ability to inspire and motivate, with a goal oriented and flexible mind-set
  • Desire and ability to communicate and collaborate effectively across disciplines and with external partners
  • Professional fluency in written and spoken English
