We are looking for a Principal DMPK Scientist who is an expert in guiding drug discovery projects and is ready to take scientific leadership of the DMPK discipline. The role is a great opportunity to impact and contribute to building the R&D pipeline with deep scientific understanding and efficient delivery of DMPK, PK/PD and Bioanalytical input, driving forward our innovative first in class or best in class drug discovery projects.
You will report to the Head of DMPK and be part of the DMPK department as well as play a key role in the Research & Early Development scientific community. You will play an important role in building our capabilities and expertise even further, ensuring scientific rigour within your areas of expertise and challenging the status quo.
Your role as Principal Scientist in DMPK:
• Provide scientific leadership, give input to the strategic direction of the department, and con-tribute to building the capabilities of the future DMPK including implementation of our Drug Technology Platform strategy focusing on innovative small molecules for oral delivery
• Represent DMPK in project teams and give input to project plans and target candidate pro-file to ensure project progression towards drug candidate selection
• Give DMPK input to enable multi-parameter optimization of drug properties, in close collabo-ration with medicinal chemistry colleagues
• Design and execute on in silico, in vitro and in vivo DMPK and simple physicochemical studies to investigate drug candidates in collaboration with laboratory technicians (e.g. drug me-tabolism, metabolic stability, plasma protein binding, Caco-2 permeability, solubility/logD, Cytochrome P450 inhibition/induction, in vivo PK).
• Setting up and driving external collaborations and interactions with contract research organi-zations
• Providing scientific guidance and mentorship within your area of expertise, and work collabo-ratively within DMPK as well as cross-functionally with other disciplines in R&D.
The role is based at LEO’s headquarters in Ballerup, Greater Copenhagen, with the possibility for a flexible remote work schedule.
Experienced DMPK scientist with strong drive for drug discovery projects:
To succeed in this role, we envision you hold a Ph.D. within pharmaceutical sciences, drug metab-olism, medicinal chemistry, or another relevant field. This is backed by 10 years of experience from pharmaceutical industry that has provided you with an in-depth expertise and hands-on experience within DMPK in a drug discovery setting.
The ideal candidate has the qualifications below and experience from a similar role:
• Preferably expertise in, or a solid understanding of:
o Drug Metabolism, Transporters & Drug-Drug Interactions
o LC-MS based bioanalysis and biotransformation
o Oral absorption, permeability, and early physicochemical characterization
o In vitro and in vivo Pharmacokinetics and dose-to-man predictions
• Experience within new drug modalities targeting Protein-Protein Interactions, Targeted Protein Degraders or RNA targeting with small molecules is an advantage
• In depth knowledge of the drug discovery process and significant experience in influencing and impacting small molecule projects in early discovery
• Excellent oral and written communication skills and an ability to interact and conduct strategic planning with colleagues in other scientific disciplines,
You must have scientific curiosity and you are energized by developing new skills. You have a structured way of working, a strong drive for results and the ability to communicate scientific re-sults efficiently at all levels.
DMPK - your new department
You will join 12 research DMPK colleagues and be a part of the newly established Pharmacology, DMPK & Safety functional area. The department has the responsibility for DMPK, PK/PD and Bio-analysis from the early idea phase to candidate selection and for ensuring a smooth transition to development.
