We are looking for a Research Portfolio Manager, who will take up the overall responsibility for planning and leadership of the early LEO Pharma’s portfolio of drug discovery projects.
You will report directly to VP Head of Research & Early Development and together with the VP, you will play a crucial role in acting as a Co-chairman of the Research Project Board Science Committee.
As the portfolio manager, you will be responsible for the portfolio leadership in the matrix organization with indirect responsibility for coaching and guidance of project leaders. You will be accountable for a successful delivery of a range of early LEO portfolio of drug discovery projects supporting the overall Research and Early Development strategy, including leading, planning and driving the early LEO portfolio of drug discovery projects
This includes the following areas of responsibility:
To be successful in the role, it’s a requirement that you have a scientific background and preferable a PhD in chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology or medicine. You have a minimum of 8 years’ experience in industrial pharmaceutical R&D and a deep insight to the pharmaceutical drug discovery and drug development process. You have profound project management skills and expertise within leading complex projects or portfolios, working in a matrix organization as well as experience with budgeting.
You are known for your open and positive mindset, and you have an excellent ability to identify, prioritize and focus on key challenges and a strong drive for results. Additionally, you understand the importance of creating data driven, agile and innovative work processes, securing an inflow of internal and external innovation into the portfolio, in addition to progressing the portfolio with the highest speed and quality according to LEO Pharma’s overall ambitions. You possess high-level problem-solving skills, including the ability to anticipate, identify and manage risks, undertake objective analysis to develop appropriate solutions and deliver outcomes aligned with our strategic ambitions.
You have solid stakeholder management and communication skills, and you are able to communicate effectively with colleagues from a variety of scientific and business disciplines. Additionally, you can manage ambiguity effectively and have a good understanding of team dynamics and how to promote and support a constructive collaboration. You have a curious mind that leverages both analytic and creative thinking as well as having an instinct for details that matter and the vision to see the bigger strategic picture.

Leadership of the Research matrix organization
As the portfolio manager, you will be responsible for the portfolio leadership in the matrix organization with indirect responsibility for coaching and guidance of project leaders. You will be accountable for a successful delivery of a range of early LEO portfolio of drug discovery projects supporting the overall Research and Early Development strategy, including leading, planning and driving the early LEO portfolio of drug discovery projects
This includes the following areas of responsibility:
- Define and execute on the portfolio roadmap within the matrix organization in Research and Early Development, including portfolio reporting and communication
- Accountable for the portfolio planning and project budgets.
- Standardize and professionalize processes and tools within Research and Early Development’s matrix organization in collaboration with Line of Business leadership teams and other relevant stakeholders.
- Coach, develop and mentor project managers/ leads in the organization.
- Secretary function for the Research Project Board which is the Official LEO Governance body.
