Frederiksberg C
Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences, Section of Plant and Soil Sciences invites applicants for a 2.5-year Postdoc position in “Carbon sequestration potential of different tillage and cover crop strategies”. The project is part of the ongoing collaborative research project “KLIMON” (Climate effect and nitrate leaching in different tillage systems), which is financed by the Danish Agricultural Agency. The overall objective of the project is to strengthen the knowledge base on the impact of changes in cropping practices in terms of tillage, cover crops, management of crop residues and their interactions on greenhouse gas emissions, carbon (C) sequestration and nitrogen leaching.
Start date is 01-04-2024 or as soon as possible thereafter. Place of employment will be at Thorvaldsensvej 40, 1871 Frederiksberg C, Denmark.
The project
The main aim of the postdoctoral project is to assess the impact of soil management strategies such as cover crops and different tillage practices on soil C dynamics. Specifically, the successful candidate will assess 1) the effect of establishment time on the C input of different cover crop species, 2) the effect of termination time and method on the turnover of cover crop-derived C and 3) long-term effects of tillage and soil cover on C sequestration. Methods used will include various soil and plant analyses on samples from ongoing short- and long-term field experiments and the establishment of own experiments under controlled conditions, including the use of radioactive and/or stable C isotopes and C fractionation procedures.
The position may also include teaching as well as other duties.
Who are we looking for?
Applicants must hold a PhD degree in agriculture, plant, soil or environmental sciences. We are looking for candidates with following qualifications:
Our group and research- and what do we offer?
The Postdoc will be part of the Soil Fertility research group https://plen.ku.dk/forskning/plante--og-jordvidenskab/soil-fertility/, which focuses on soil fertility in agriculture and has three main research areas: promoting circularity through resource recycling, appropriate nutrient management and reducing the environmental impacts of agriculture.
The group is a part of the Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences, Faculty of SCIENCE, University of Copenhagen. We are based in Copenhagen, with a main campus in Frederiksberg and field trials at our experimental farm in Taastrup, 20 km from the main campus. Our research facilities include modern laboratories, growth chambers, greenhouses and experimental fields. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in a dynamic and international research environment.
Further information on the Department is linked at http://www.science.ku.dk/english/about-the-faculty/organisation/. Inquiries about the position can be made to Assoc. prof. Dorette Müller-Stöver, [email protected].
