The Research Unit of Rheumatology, Department of Regional Health Research (IRS), University of Southern Denmark (SDU) and the Danish Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases invite applications for a position as Associate Professor in Rehabilitation (50% time) to be filled in as soon as possible.

The position is open to health professionals (psychologists, nurses, occupational therapists, physiotherapists or social workers or people with other relevant basic training). There is a possibility of 50 % clinical work/professional development tasks at the Danish Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases, Sønderborg or part time employment somewhere else. The position is limited to three years with possibility of extension.

The preferred candidate possesses a scientific degree, at least PhD, and documents interest and international research experience in rehabilitation with relevance for rheumatology rehabilitation.

The Research Unit in Rheumatology is an integrated part of the Danish Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases, University Hospital of Southern Denmark, Sønderborg. The hospital is owned by the Danish Rheumatism Association and is the only highly specialized hospital for rheumatic diseases in Denmark. The Research Unit in Rheumatology consists of three professors, one associate professor, one post doc researcher, four PhD students and three research assistants. The hospital and the research unit hold a long record of user involvement in clinical practice, development tasks and research.

Job description

The position as associate professor in rehabilitation is created with the aim to expand the research in rheumatology rehabilitation with special focus on inflammatory rheumatic conditions. The applicant will work in close collaboration with the two professors in rheumatology rehabilitation, Jette Primdahl and Ann Bremander, and will refer to the head of the research department, professor, senior consultant, Oliver Hendricks.

The position as associate professor involves research, professional development, research dissemination, supervision and assessment work. Engagement in educational activities at the University of Southern Denmark is possible. The applicant will be expected to contribute to a positive work environment and must demonstrate an interest in and participate in interdisciplinary and cross-sectional collaboration.

The applicant will be expected to have good networking skills to join strong, existing cross-sectoral networks and to cultivate further networking in the field of rheumatology rehabilitation. Good oral and written communication skills in Danish are necessary.

Areas of research could encompass the following tasks:

  • Evaluation of current interventions in relation to rheumatology rehabilitation
  • Development, implementation and evaluation of novel interdisciplinary interventions
  • Surveys and epidemiology across the field of rheumatology rehabilitation
  • Dissemination of research findings and the delivery of evidence-based training and education to rheumatology health professionals
  • All phases of assessment, development and management of research projects

The clinical position

The content of a possible clinical position is open for discussion, and will vary depending on the applicant’s professional background, experience and qualifications. However, both clinical and research duties must have a strong and inherent connection and must be discussed and established with the hospital management. Depending on clinical qualifications and experience, the clinical duties can include outpatient clinic, patient education, supervision, and training of staff and students at the Danish Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases.

Qualifications

The applicant will be expected to have:

  • A PhD degree
  • Relevant research experience documented by publications in international peer-reviewed journals
  • Relevant clinical experience
  • Successful track record in obtaining research funding
  • A documented record of teaching experience and teaching skills including experiences from teaching and supervision of clinical staff
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
