The Department of Regional Health Research (IRS) at SDU is looking for an applicant for a PhD scholarship within the field of personalised medicine with the specific purpose to describe the medication treatment journey of patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) before and after diagnosis in order to gain insights into medication use among IBD patients throughout their disease progression. Especially, whether early initiation of biological treatment improves the treatment outcomes of IBD patients.
Research environment
The Research Unit of Molecular Diagnostic and clinical Research (MOK) improves personalised medicine by applying in depth molecular, lifestyle and clinical characterization of the individual patient. Personalised medicine is the center of the research, where various subject areas meet in research by using multifaceted methods. In particular, we focus on irritable bowel disease.
In MOK, we have three focus areas, which prioritize elite research environment, staff and external funding.
You will become a member of a small, ambitious research team with various backgrounds (molecular biology, medicine, pharmacy, health research), and you will be in close contact with other PhD students. You will be affiliated with the Hospital Pharmacy Research Unit within MOK situated at Hospital Sønderjylland in Åbenrå.
Project description
The PhD project comprises a mixed methods study, where a registry study of patients with an IBD diagnosis will document the medication treatment journey from a quantitative perspective, while qualitative interviews and field observations will be performed to address patients’ personal perspective of the medication treatment journey.
The results of the PhD project will provide us with insights into medication use among IBD patients throughout their disease progression, which will help us identify interventions to improve medication treatment for IBD patients – especially regarding biological treatment.
Supervisors
You will be supervised by:
Associate professor Lene Juel Kjeldsen (MOK/The University of Southern Denmark)
Professor Vibeke Andersen (MOK/The University of Southern Denmark)
Associate professor Susanne Kaae (Copenhagen University)
