The Cardiac Genetics Group is looking for a highly motivated and dynamic bioinformatics postdoc for a 2-year position to commence 1st of March 2024 or soon thereafter. You will be part of our team leading research on elucidation the genetic mechanisms underlying complex heart disease.

Our research
Our research aims are to understand cardiac arrhythmias and structural heart diseases through genetics. In recent years we have also focused on the relationship between structural cardiac disease and vascular function. In this project we will investigate the genetics behind such interactions.
The ideal candidate has a strong interest in learning and applying new bioinformatics techniques, and has a strong publication record in within genetics and human disease in high-level international scientific journals.
An interest in teaching and mentoring is also diseasble, as you will be expected to contribute towards the departments teaching activities and supervision of BSc, MSs and PhD students within the group.
We are thus looking for an ambitious and enthusiastic scientist with the following skills and experiences:

The Cardiac Genetics group is located on the 9th floor in Maersk Tower at UCPH, close to central Copenhagen. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in a dynamic and international research environment. Our research facilities include modern laboratories and several core facilities shared between the 8 research groups on the 9th floor and the neighboring Rigshoptialet.
The deparment runs seminars with invited international speakers, a Young Researchers Club (ASAP), a PhD program, (MoMeD), and a Postdoc Career Programme.

Terms of employment
The average weekly working hours are 37 hours per week.
The position is a fixed-term position limited to a period of 2 years. The starting date is 1st of March, 2024 or soon thereafter.
Salary, pension, and other conditions of employment are set by the Agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or another relevant organization. Depending on qualifications, a supplement may be negotiated. The employer will pay an additional 17.1% to your pension fund.
Foreign and Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reductions if they hold a Ph.D. degree and have not been tax liable in Denmark for the last 10 years.
The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2020.

Essential qualifications
- You hold a PhD in cardiac genetics, genetics, computational biology or bioinformatics.
- You have excellent skills in programming languages such as Python or R, Linux, and Git version control and experience working on high-performance clusters
- Experience in handling and analyzing large patient or biological datasets, e.g. UK Biobank
- Experience with various bioinformatics analytics approaches, and techniques
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
- Interest and curiosity within the field of translational science, e.g., pharmacology, cardiovascular disease, and clinical translation
- Documented experience in performing GWAS and ExWAS
Desirable qualtifications
- A strong publication record with first authorships in leading journals
- Knowledge of cardiac arrhythmia and structural heart disease
- Detail-oriented with strong documentation skills
- Strong foundation in statistics and machine learning
- Self-sufficient and able to lead projects from start to end
