The Center for Quantum Devices at the Niels Bohr Institute, Faculty of Science at University of Copenhagen is offering one or more PhD scholarship(s) in Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics with flexible starting date beginning as early as 1 June 2020.
Description of the scientific environment
The Center for Quantum Devices is a center of excellence at the Niels Bohr Institute. The center focuses on theoretical and experimental research on how to create, control, measure, and protect quantum coherence and entanglement in solid-state electronic. The center has strong connections to other research groups at the Niels Bohr Institute, including the Niels Bohr International Academy and also with Microsoft Quantum – Copenhagen laboratory. The successful candidate will become part of the Condensed Matter Theory Group and will have the opportunity to interact and collaborate with other members of the group which currently has six professors.
Project description
The theme of the PhD project will be quantum dynamics in many-body systems. Potential topics include (nonlinear) collective dynamics and novel nonequilibrium phases in driven systems, collective phenomena in hybrid materials, electron hydrodynamics, development of numerical methods including applications of machine learning to problems in quantum dynamics. The precise choice of topic and nature of the work (abstract vs. applied, analytical vs. numerical) will be shaped together with the PhD Fellow.

Formal requirements
Applicants should hold an MSc degree in Physics or a closely related field with good results and good English skills. As criteria for the assessment of your qualifications, emphasis will also be laid on previous publications (if any) and relevant work experience.
Terms of employment
The position is covered by the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff.
Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State.
The starting salary is currently at a minimum DKK 328.355 (approx. €43,750) including annual supplement (+ pension at a minimum DKK 53,360). Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.
