Department of Nutrition, Exercise and Sports, Faculty of Science at University of Copenhagen is offering a PhD scholarship in nutrition commencing 01.06.2020 or as soon as possible thereafter.
Description of the scientific environment
The Section for Preventive and Clinical Nutrition possesses specialist expertise within the documentation of the health effects of foods, diets, clinical nutrition and the use and development of biomarkers.
The section conducts meal and long-term dietary intervention studies focusing on single foods, food components, and whole diets and involve adult subjects to investigate the possibilities to scientifically substantiate the cause effect relationship between dietary intake and particular health effects. The section also works with patients to find the most optimal diets as part of their treatment. The section develops new methods for measuring food consumption, nutrition and health outcomes using metabolomics and advanced statistical methods (Read more here).

This project examines the role of calcium in prevention of bone loss in postmenopausal women. The project specifically addresses the application of a novel calcium supplement to be tested in a 12 months randomized controlled intervention trial to be conducted at two centres. The tasks include a pilot study and a main study with recruitment, intervention and measurements of dietary intake and bone status. The PhD project is part of a larger study with cross-disciplinary collaboration.

Applicants should hold an MSc degree in nutrition or related areas with good results and good English skills. Fluency in Danish (Scandinavian) both written as spoken is required. As criteria for the assessment of your qualifications emphasis will also be laid on and relevant work experience and previous publications (if any).
Terms of employment
The position is covered by the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff.
Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State.
The starting salary is currently at a minimum DKK 328.355 (approx. €43,750) including annual supplement (+ pension at a minimum DKK 53,360). Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.
